Hidden Mothers

Maybe it's too early in the morning for this kind of noise, but it's hard to care when the noise rules as much as it does.  Enter Sheffield band Hidden Mothers, whose mix of post-hardcore vocals, black metal guitars, and post-rock aesthetic makes for a both brutal and soaring sonic experience.  New album "Erosion / Avulsion" is out in November on Church Road Records.  Pre-order it here and listen to album opener "Defanged" below.

Sprain

LA band Sprain have a new record coming our way in September, and our first taste, "Man Proposes, God Disposes," is a cool mix of post-punk and post-hardcore noise.  The track is all over the place, spoken lyrics and shouting, shredding guitars, and feels like it might unravel at any second, but somehow manages to keep it all together for its 7-minute runtime.  Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "The Lamb as Effigy" LP here from The Flenser.

Pile

Here's a crunchy, punchy track from "All Fiction," the latest release from Boston/New York post punk band Pile.  For some reason, i always sleep on these guys, which is really stupid of me because all their records are great.  Anyway, check out "Loops" below and get the album here from the band.

Birds in Row

Here's a noisy blast of hardcore punk and emo from French band Birds in Row.  "Water Wings" is the kind of thing i would have banged around to 20+ years ago, a melodic and aggressive piece raw emotion.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Gris Klein" LP here from Red Creek.

Kal Marks

Boston band Kal Marks has a new album coming our way later this summer, and on "Ovation," the band are doing a kind of post-hardcore noise rock thing, albeit one with a damn catchy chorus.  Check the track out below and download the "My Name Is Hell" from the band here in August.

Daily Jam - The Shit Sisters

I don't know how it came up, but i had completely forgotten about the "Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home" LP by These Arms Are Snakes until a few days ago.  It's one of those albums where i'm sure i used to own the CD but for some reason or another, i don't anymore.  Anyway, being reminded of it set me to listening, the album opening "The Shit Sisters" in particular which i've always felt channels Jane's Addiction to delirious effect.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Glassing

Austin trio Glassing create dense pieces of sound combining elements of black metal and post hardcore bombast.  The result is heavy and immense.  New album "Spotted Horse" came out last week.  Get it here via Brutal Panda and listen to the album opening "When You Stare" below.

Birds In Row

Birds In Row are a French post-hardcore punk band who shroud themselves i secrecy.  They only go by their first initials and do not allow photos of their faces to be taken.  That's cool i guess, but more importantly, they've got a really excellent, moody, and aggressive sound going for them.  Listen to "15-38" below and pre-order the upcoming "We Already Lost the World" LP here from Deathwish.
