Daily Jam - Long Gone Day

Here's a track from Seattle grunge supergroup Mad Season's sole album "Above."  Featuring members of Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam, and Alice In Chains, it really is a damn shame we never got anymore music from this collective.  Damn heroin.  Listen to the Mark Lanegan assisted "Long Gone Day" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - You Will Miss Me When I Burn

I'm late to the game on this one, but just recently started listening to the Soulsavers.  Of late, the band has been making music with Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan, but their 2009 album "Broken" is a mix of alt-rock, gospel, and folk that features folks like Mike Patton and Mark Lanegan.  It's great.  Listen to the Lanegan sung, Will Oldham penned piano ballad "You Will Miss Me When I Burn" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The False Husband

Here's a wonderful and moody track from Isobel Campbell and the late, great Mark Lanegan for our Wednesday.  Listen to "The False Husband" below, our Daily Jam.

RIP Mark Lanegan

I just received a text from my brother with the awful news that Mark Lanegan has died a the age of 57.  As part of the original Seattle grunge scene, Lanegan's music has been in my life for over 30 years now.  And it's been amazing music too, whether with Screaming Trees or the Mark Lanegan Band or Queens of the Stone Age, or any of the slew of collaborative projects he worked on as well (his duet albums with Isobel Campbell come to mind).  Looks like i know what i'm listening to for the rest of the day, starting with 2004's "When Your Number Isn't Up" below.  RIP Mark Lanegan.

Nicole Atkins & Mark Lanegan - November Rain

Two of my favorite voices in pop music have collided to cover an almost 30-year old epic rock staple, Guns N' Roses' "November Rain."  Nicole Atkins lends her old sultry country twang to the song along with Mark Lanegan's gravelly croon to create a piece of dusty Americana along with slide guitars and plenty of melancholy.  It works and it's great.  Listen below.

Mark Lanegan Band

April is bringing us "Gargoyle," a new album of tunes by the Mark Lanegan Band.  New Mark Lanegan is always welcome news around here, and listening to "Nocturne," the first single from the new record, this emerging blend of dark synth sound paired with the artist's gravelly, smokey grunge rock has me stoked for all the imminent romantic gloom.  Listen below and grab the record April 28th on Heavenly Recordings.

Martyn Lenoble and Christian Eigner cover David Bowie

It's been seven months since we lost David Bowie, and apparently i'm not the only one who still hasn't gotten over it.  Martyn Lenoble (Porno For Pyros) and Christian Eigner just released a cover of Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire) featuring crusty, old Mark Lanegan on lead vocals and Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan on backing vocals.  It's a divine slow burn, and proceeds for the single benefit the American Liver Foundation.  Listen below.

Mark Lanegan and Beth Orton cover Marc Almond and Nico

Heavenly Recordings is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and are releasing a slew of singles for the event.  One of those singles is an excellent and faithful cover of Marc Almond's and Nico's "Your Kisses Burn" performed by Mark Lanegan and Beth Orton.  The song is gorgeous and lush, Lanegan's dusty old vocals pairing nicely Orton's ghostly swoon and the orchestral accompaniment.  Listen below.

Mark Lanegan

Mark Lanegan's latest solo effort, "Imitations," is a collection of cover songs from Lanegan's youth, beautifully arranged and fronted by his wonderful worn and smoky vocals.  Take a listen to "Deepest Shade" below and sink into the mood.  Get the LP from Vagrant Records.

Moby & Mark Lanegan

The unlikely duo of Moby and Mark Lanegan released a 7" single last Saturday for Record Store Day.  "The Lonely Night" is a slow burning, moody dirge, reminiscent of the early 90's output of Leonard Cohen.  In other words, it's haunting and gorgeous.  Listen below.
