Deerhoof

New music from San Francisco based band Deerhoof is always interesting.  They somehow manage to try out all new kinds of sounds while still sounding completely like themselves.  New album "Noble and Godlike in Ruin" is out next month, and the band describes it as "a grotesque in two acts."  Hmm.  We'll have to hear what that's all about.  In the meantime, check out the album closing "Immigrant Songs" below and pre-order the LP here from Joyful Noise Recordings.

Daily Jam - Spiral Golden Town

My vacation starts today.  Well, i guess technically it started at 6PM yesterday, as i'm going to milk every last hour of the next 10 days.  You can catch me at the beach.  Here's "Spiral Golden Town" from Deerhoof, our Daily Jam.

Deerhoof - Love-Lore

Yesterday Deerhoof released a 5 track mash-up medley consisting of dozens of songs smooshed together into an awesome and chaotic Deerhoof EP.  The group takes bits and pieces from artists like The Velvet Underground, Ornette Coleman, The B-52's, and more.  And is that the "Knight Rider" theme in there?  Yes it is.  The whole thing kind of plays like a live band version of Girl Talk.  Check out "Love-Lore" in its entirety below and download it here (pay what you want).

Deerhoof - Criminals of the Dream

Okay, so Deerhoof's "The Magic" actually came out way back during summer of last year, but i have had the long running art rock band's "Criminals of the Dream" stuck in my head for the last couple of weeks.  A wonderful combination of lo-fi new age synths, driving guitar riffs, and the band's signature off-kilter, singsong vocals, the track seems like a perfect way to usher in the spring.  Listen to the track below and get the record from Polyvinyl.

Big Walnuts Yonder

I can tell we are officially entering springtime, and not just because it's getting a lot warmer around here, but rather because i can barely keep up with all of the amazing new music coming out over the next several weeks.  I've basically been blogging all morning, and could seriously keep going for the rest of the day.  But i am at work...so maybe not.  Anyway, new supergroup Big Walnuts Yonder, featuring members of Wilco, Deerhoof, and the legendary Mike Watt are releasing a self-titled LP in May on Sargent House.  Listen to the experimental, chaotic proto-punk of "Raise the Drawbridges?" below.
