Cindy Lee - Heavy Metal

Good news everyone!  February brings us a new record from Cindy Lee, Patrick Flegel's wonderful project that combs the sounds of old girl groups and reverb and pairs them with reflections on loneliness.  The project has produced some of my favorite music of the last five years.  Pre-order "What's Tonight to Eternity" here via Superior Viaduct, and listen to album closer and tribute to former band mate Chris Reimer (RIP), "Heavy Metal," below.

SASAMI

Last year at SXSW, i was fortunate enough to see LA band Cherry Glazerr a couple of times.  Well, it now appears that band member Sasami Ashworth has left the group to focus on solo pursuits.  And so we have "Callous," a wonderful first single and signifier of things yet to come.  It's noisy, poppy, strange, and personal little tune that gets under the skin.  Listen below and be on the lookout for an album later this year.

His Clancyness

Lately i've been combing through lists of bands that i've never heard of that are set to appear at SXSW next month to find some artists to try and check out.  From Bologna, Italy come His Clancyness and sophomore album "Isolation Culture," a collection of strange and quirky art-pop.  Now that these guys are on my radar, i'm definitely going to have to catch them while they're here.  Listen to "Uranium" below and grab the record from Maple Death or Hand Drawn Dracula.

Micachu

Mica Levi's claim to fame is probably her amazing and haunting score for Jonathan Glazer's film "Under the Skin," but she's also been making fractured art-pop under the name Micachu for years.  Her most recent effort, "Clothes Wear Me," comes courtesy of Adult Swim.  Give it a listen below.
