Cate Le Bon & Bradford Cox

The annual Marfa Myths music and art festival in Marfa, Texas is something i have not had the benefit of attending yet (much to my dismay), but at least i get to hear some of the fruits of labor every year when Mexican Summer releases the previous fest's collaborative residency.  These are generally pretty awesome, and last year's featured Cate Le Bon and Deerhunter front man Bradford Cox.  Check out "Secretary" from the duo below and get the "Myths 004" record in November.

Dungen & Woods

Mexican Summer's Marfa Myths has been a pretty interesting little festival these last couple of years, and someday i'm really going to have to venture west into the desert to check this music and art gathering out.  The lineups are always great, both sonically and visually, the whole thing seems like this really cool and intimate affair.  So far, each year has spawned a collaborative record from a pair of artist released on the record label as a kind of series called "Myths."  2015 gave us work from Connan Mockasin and Dev Hynes from Blood Orange and 2016 was an almost madrigal pairing of Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood.  2017's effort, which comes out in March, is a collection of poppy, folksy psych jams from the boys in Dungen and Woods.  Listen to "Turn Around" below and pre-order the record here.  Also, get tickets to the festival here if you are so inclined.  This year's collaboration will be from Deerhunter/Atlas Sound main man Bradford Cox and Cate Le Bon.

Ariel Pink & Weyes Blood

Frequent collaborators Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood have joined forces again for the upcoming "Myths 002" EP, out later this month on Mexican Summer.  The recording was made in conjunction with label's annual Marfa Myths festival, an art and music event i really need to make it out to one of these days.  Listen to the magical and almost medieval sounding "Tears on Fire" below.

Marfa Myths

Next month on March 13-15, the folks at Mexican Summer are putting on a cultural/art/music program in Marfa, Texas featuring acts like Grouper, Iceage, Weyes Blood, and more.  There will be visual art exhibits and installations, live music, and so on.  It looks really cool, kind of a laid back, west Texas alternative to SXSW.  I wish i could go.  At any rate, Mexican Summer are offering up a label sampler in celebration of the event that you can get here.  Listen to Michael Angelo's "The World to Be" below.
