The Saxophones

Oakland based husband and wife duo The Saxophones released their new album "No Time for Poetry" earlier this month, a mix of baroque pop, exotica, lounge, and noirish jazz.  The whole thing plays like some kind dark and strange film, black and white images in a smoky haze.  Check out the album opening "Too Big for California" below and get the LP here from Full Time Hobby.

Monde UFO

Earlier this year, LA artist Monde UFO released the weird and wonderful, and probable year-end-best, "Flamingo Tower" LP.  November brings us a "sequel" EP with the upcoming "Flamingo Tower, Nobody Cares."  Check out the also weird and wonderful album opener "Nobody Cares" below, a kind of dusty, cinematic mix of old pop sounds.  And pre-order the EP here from Fire Records.

Whatitdo Archive Group

Lay Llamas

Lay Llamas is the project of Sicilian composer Nicola Giunta which brings together an assortment of musicians to craft cosmic, spellbinding vibes with a swirl of psychedelic pop, krautrock, afrobeat, jazz, and so on.  New album "Hidden Eyes in a Ghost Jungle" dropped last month, and it's a lush and teeming amalgam of sounds.  Check out the exotic "Golden Snakes on Our Path" below and get the album here from Delete Recordings.

Ivan the Tolerable

I've really been digging on the work of LA band Monde UFO the last couple of years, their mix of jazz, lounge, exotica, and psych-tinged alt-rock scratching a particular itch i wasn't even aware i had.  The band's new album "Flamingo Tower" is out in March.  Listen to the strange "Samba 9" below and pre-order the LP here from Fire Records.

Paint & Matt Baldwin

Here's a weird mix of exotic guitar and drone that plays like some kind of fever dream from Brooklyn-based band Paint (Allah-Las member Pedrum Siadatian) and LA artist Matt Baldwin.  Dig on the warbled mess of "Dead Ringer" below and snag the "Cherry Lagoon" cassette from the artists here or here.

Lilacs & Champagne

Les Cyclades

Every now and then i find a song that just seems to completely catch my mood at the moment, and today, while looking out the window at the currently gray skies of Central Texas, that song is "Yser Mystère" by Belgian artist Les Cyclades.  The song is dreamy and noirish mix of ambient music, electronica, exotica, new age, Balearic dreampop, and jazz.  And at this moment, it just feels right.  Check the track out below and grab the new "Glika" LP here from Hi Scores.

De Beren Gieren

Ghost Funk Orchestra

Kioea
