Liz Harris records under a lot of different monikers from time to time, and one of those is here collaborative project with Jefre Cantu-Ledsma called Raum.  It's been a few years since we last got a release from the duo, but that changed today with "Daughter."  The ambient record explores grief and loss through sound, and it's quite effective.  Check out "Sunlight Crying" below and get the record here.

Grouper

Xiu Xiu and Liz Harris

The boundary pushing, experimental, avant garde pop group Xiu Xiu are gracing us with a new record in March, this time around as a duets album featuring a whole slew of other great artists.  Highlights include Angus Andrew of Liars, Chelsea Wolfe, Sharon Van Etten, and Owen Pallett among others.  Grouper's Liz Harris is also featured on the new record on the single "A Bottle of Rum."  Check that one out below and pre-order the "OH NO" LP here via Polyvinyl.  And i'm just dying to hear the cover of The Cure's "One Hundred Years."

Grouper - Little Gray Cat

New music from Grouper is always a good thing.  And new music from Grouper that also serves as a benefit for shelter cats and dogs is even better.  Liz Harris's new song "Little Gray Cat" appears on the "Let It Come to You" benefit album that's raising funds for the Clatsop Animal Assistance in Oregon.  Check them out here, listen to the song below, and get the whole album here.

Nivhek (Grouper)

Liz Harris of Grouper fame just surprise released a new double album under the moniker Nivhek.  Upon first listen, "After its own death / Walking in a spiral towards the house" is a droning and haunting piece of sound, like the ambience of time expanding or space collapsing.  Listen to the whole thing below and order it here via Yellow Electric.

Roy Montgomery featuring Liz Harris

New Zealand guitarist and composer Roy Montgomery has been making music for a while now (he is pushing 60 after all), and the artist has a new album, "Suffuse," headed our way in the very near future (August!) which features a whole slew of guest vocalists (stemming from Montgomery's distaste for his own voice).  Guests include Julanna Barwick, Purple Pilgrims, and Circuit Des Yeux's Haley Fohr among others.  And our first taste of the record features gorgeous vocals from Liz Harris, whom you may otherwise know as Grouper.  Listen to "Landfall" below and pre-order the album here from Grapefruit Records.

It's wonderful to wake up to news of new music from Grouper, and so here we have it.  Liz Harris's entrancing project will be gifting us a new record, "Grid of Points," in April on Kranky.  The special edition LP is already sold out (it was literally just announced 3 hours ago), but you can still pre-order all the other editions here.  In the meantime, listen to the achingly beautiful "Parking Lot" below.

Every purchase made on Bandcamp today raises money for the Transgender Law Center, so i encourage you to pad your collections today.  And while you're doing that, be sure to grab a new track from Grouper.  "Children" was recorded while the artist was making the "Ruins" LP, but for some reason or another didn't make the record.  But, it's available now.  Listen below and go buy it here.  Do something good today.

Helen

A couple of years ago, Liz Harris of Grouper fame put out an awesome 7" with fuzzy, lo-fi-shoegaze band Helen.  I always figured it was just a one-and-done kind of thing, but thank the heavens i was wrong.  Helen will be releasing a full-length LP called "The Original Faces" on Kranky in September.  Listen to lead single "Motorcycle" below.  Hooray!

Grouper - Call Across Rooms

Here's our first taste of the upcoming new album from Grouper.  "Call Across Rooms" is haunting mix of hushed vocals and piano...and it's devastating.  "Ruins" is due on Halloween from Kranky and Liz Harris' Yellow Electric label.  Read her description of the recording process:

"Recorded pretty simply, with a portable 4-track, Sony stereo mic and an upright piano.  When I wasn't recording songs I was hiking several miles to the beach.  The path wound through the ruins of several old estates and a small village.

The album is a document.  A nod to that daily walk.  Failed structures.  Living in the remains of love.  I left the songs the way they came (microwave beep from when power went out after a storm); I hope that the album bears some resemblance to the place that I was in."

Raum

Grouper's Liz Harris is certainly keeping herself busy these days with wide array of side projects and collaborations.  Her latest is an effort with Jefre Cantu-Ledesma called Raum.  A gorgeous array of looped and echoed vocals, feedback, fuzz, and wonderful humming drone, the music sounds like sinking into the carpet of your bedroom...but in a good way.  "Blood Moon" is out next week on Glass, house.  Listen to the title track below.

Helen

Liz Harris (Grouper) has a new project called Helen.  The group craft fuzzy, reverb-drenched bliss, lo-fi shoegaze in an echo chamber.  Take a listen to "Felt This Way" below.  You can get the songs digitally now on itunes, but a physical release is soon to follow.

Word on the street is we can expect a new album of unreleased material from Grouper, recorded during the "Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill" period in February from Kranky.  And you know what they say about the word on the street?  Believe it.
