Queensrÿche's "Empire" will forever transport me back to the 6th grade.  It, along with a handful of other records from that era, both good and bad, basically serve as a goddamn time machine going straight back to 11-year old me.  Here's a tack from it.  Listen to "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Silent Lucidity

I’d like for a minute for all of us to sit down and contemplate just how weird it was that in 1991, a ballad about lucid dreaming written and performed by an American prog metal band cracked the Billboard Top 10 and became this massive hit. And it was almost six minutes long too. And the bridge had a spoken word section in it about “achieving dream control.” It’s mind blowing. Seriously. But I guess that’s where we were at in the Spring of 1991, Queensrÿche’s “Silent Lucidity,” a single from their 1990 album Empire, playing alongside the likes of the Gerardos and the Marky Marks of the world.

Can you imagine something like that happening now? Me neither. So let’s just listen to that prog-lite lullaby on repeat for a little while until dream control is achieved.

Daily Jam - Anybody Listening?

Queensrÿche's "Empire" came out when i was in 6th grade, a mix of heavy metal, prog rock, and pop that grabbed my 12-year old ears and screamed LISTEN.  And i did.  Those particular guitar tones, proggy melodies, and melodrama made for many a late night listening, jamming the tunes on my Walkman when i was supposed to be sleeping before school the following morning.  Honestly, it's probably still my preferable way of listening.  Anyway, check out the album closing "Anybody Listening?" below, our Daily Jam.
