The Body

Portland experimental metal duo The Body have proven to be quite prolific throughout their career.  2024 has already seen them release an excellent collaborative album with Berlin based electronic artist Dis Fig, and now November brings us a more traditional record from the duo (as traditional as you can get with the ever experimenting and innovating band).  Check out the ominous and noisy "End of Line" below and pre-order "The Crying Out of Things" here from Thrill Jockey.

Experimental metal band The Body have been pushing their sound into new and different directions pretty much since their inception, with forays into industrial, folk, noise, and more, either on their own with a plethora of collaborators.  On upcoming new album "Orchards of a Futile Heaven," the duo find themselves working with dark electronic artist Dis Fig, and together make some dense, world-ending music.  Check out "Holy Lance" below and pre-order the album, out in February, here from Thrill Jockey.

Sightless Pit

I totally forgot we were getting a new Sightless Pit album this month.  The duo of Lee Buford (The Body) and Dylan Walker (Full of Hell) find themselves collaborating with a slew of different artists on the new "Lockstep Bloodwar."  Check out the opening track "Resin on a Knife" featuring Midwife below and get the LP here from Thrill Jockey.

Sightless Pit

Uniform & The Body

Good news everyone!  Industrial metal duo Uniform and noisy, experimental black metal duo The Body are set to release a new collaborative album in August on Sacred Bones.  "Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back" is the follow up to last year's "Mental Wounds Not Healing," and pairing these two artists together again just made my day.  Listen to "Penance" below and pre-order the record here.

Surprise album from The Body

Last night, Portland's droney, noisy metal duo The Body dropped a surprise album to shred our eardrums, the gloriously titled, "O God Who Avenges, Shine Forth. Rise Up, Judge of the Earth; Pay Back to the Proud What They Deserve."  They recorded it over two days just last week, so this is about as raw of an album as we are likely to get from them.  Listen to album opener "Voice of Passion" below and download the whole thing here from the band.

Uniform & The Body

Fresh off of last week's "I Have Fought Against It, But I Can't Any Longer" LP, experimental metal duo The Body are back again in a couple of weeks with a new collaborative album with fellow noise makers Uniform.  The Ozzy Osbourne referencing "Mental Wounds Not Healing" is sure to be another wonderful cacophony.  Listen to "Come and See" below and get the record from Sacred Bones next month.

Portland duo The Body's 2016 album "No One Deserves Happiness" is still in pretty normal rotation for me two years later, and there's still nothing else out there that sounds like it.  May brings us the band's latest, "I Have Fought Against It, But I Can't Any Longer," which seems to push even further into the sonic territories the band has been laying the groundwork for their entire career.  Elements of electronic, synth-wave, pop, and more seep their way into the thundering, black metal-indebted, experimental soup.  All at once, it's beautiful and terrifying, and i cannot wait for this record to come out.  Listen to "Nothing Stirs" below and pre-order the album here via Thrill Jockey.

Responsible for what is easily some of my favorite music of the year, noise metal duo The Body have released a new single via Adult Swim, "To Know and To Hide."  The track is ominous and foreboding, a kind of creeping dread nightmare fuel for future horror movies, with eerie synths and cacophonous noise.  Listen below.

The Body/Full of Hell

A week or two after releasing their self-proclaimed gross pop album "No One Deserves Happiness," a surefire contender for my favorite album of the year, experimental-industrial-doom-metal duo The Body are back with another release, a collaborative record with the Maryland nihilistic metal band Full of Hell called "One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache."  Hole references aside, this newer record is just as blistering and bleak as anything the band has done to date.  Get it from Neurot Recordings and watch the video for "Fleshworks" below.

The Body

Providence, Rhode Island's The Body have been demolishing my eardrums for a couple of years now (either on their own, or with Louisiana sludge purveyors Thou).  Taking cues from sludge metal and industrial metal and a whole lot of experimental boundary-pushing, the duo craft awful, cacophonous dirges to summon the end of the world to, noise-fueled screeds to drive you mad.  Their latest opus, "No One Deserves Happiness," out next week on Thrill Jockey, takes all this doom and noise and adds layers of choral vocal arrangements from the Assembly of Light Choir to create some almost chilling atmospherics.  Listen to the crushing "Hallow / Hollow" below.

The Body & Thou cover Nine Inch Nails

Fresh off of an excellent 2014, sludge metal act Thou are teaming with experimental noise band The Body, who also had a pretty good 2014, for an album of black and rotting sound called "You, Whom I Have Always Hated."  The collaboration is due later this month on Thrill Jockey, but you can listen to the blistering, barely recognizable cover to Nine Inch Nails' "Terrible Lie" below.

The Body

The Body is Lee Buford and Chip King.  The duo sound like the darkest spectrum of the Wax Trax catalog filtered through Scott Walker's deepest, most insane nightmares.  It's strange, and intense, and honestly, really fucking awesome.  Their latest album "I Shall Die Here" finds the experimental electronic noise meddlers trading shots with Bobby Krlic, aka Haxan Cloak.  This is ominous, scary music at its very best.  Get the album next month from RVNG and listen to "Hail to thee, Everlasting Pain" below.
