Providence, Rhode Island's The Body have been demolishing my eardrums for a couple of years now (either on their own, or with Louisiana sludge purveyors Thou). Taking cues from sludge metal and industrial metal and a whole lot of experimental boundary-pushing, the duo craft awful, cacophonous dirges to summon the end of the world to, noise-fueled screeds to drive you mad. Their latest opus, "No One Deserves Happiness," out next week on Thrill Jockey, takes all this doom and noise and adds layers of choral vocal arrangements from the Assembly of Light Choir to create some almost chilling atmospherics.
