Blackwater Holylight

Portland's Blackwater Holylight make a kind of shoegaze-tinged stoner rock (stoner-gaze?) that plays simultaneously like a punch to the eardrums and an ethereal haze.  Heavy riffs and daydreams.  The band's new album "Not Here Not Gone" dropped today.  Grab the LP here from Suicide Squeeze and listen to "Bodies" below.

Abraxas

Julia Shapiro Remixed by Jenn Champion

Last year, Seattle artist Julia Shapiro released the excellent "Zorked" LP.  A highlight of that album was "Death (XIII)," which now gets the remix treatment from Jenn Champion.  The new version is almost completely unrecognizable from the original, turning a grungey shoegaze track into a moody synth pop jam.  Check it out below and get it here from Suicide Squeeze.

Julia, Julia

Julia Kugel, one of the founding members of the raucous garage rock group The Coathangers, is venturing out on a new solo project called Julia, Julia.  The new project finds the artist in dreamier, hazier, trippier waters going by the gorgeous and hypnotic new single "Fever in My Heart."  Check that song out below and pre-order the upcoming "Derealization" LP here from Suicide Squeeze.

Julie Shapiro

Here's a reverbed and crunchy new solo tune from Chastity Belt's Julie Shapiro.  "Death (XIII)" sounds like the first half of the '90s all smooshed together and swirled around in a blender, or more basically shoegazey grunge.  Grungey shoegaze?  Whatever it is, you know it when you hear it.  And i love it.  Check the track out below and pre-order Shapiro's upcoming sophomore solo effort "Zorked" here from Suicide Squeeze.

The Paranoyds

Trippy LA alt-rock band The Paranoyds have a new 7" heading our way in a couple weeks, but the A-side is out just in time for Halloween.  Not a reference to the King novel or the Ramones song, as discernable from the correctly spelled "cemetery," the band's "Pet Cemetery" has spooky vibes for days and reverb and crunch to rattle your ears.  Check it out below and get the record here from Suicide Squeeze.
