20 Favorite Movies of 2021 that Didn't Come out in 2021

Much like last year, i spent a whole lot of time in 2021 watching a whole lot of movies.  I checked out a lot of the usual insanity i feast upon every year, but also worked on knocking off a lot of egregious blind spots in my cinematic viewing history.  I saw monsters, femme fatales, maniacs, double-crosses, and more decapitated heads than you can shake a stick at.  Here are 20 of my favorite first viewings presented in alphabetical order.  Check 'em out.

1. The Astrologer (1976)

2. Beyond the Door III (1989)

3. Cemetery of Terror (1985)

4. Crimes of Passion (1984)

5. Dark Waters (1993)

6. Django (1966)

7. Klute (1971)

8. The Last Seduction (1994)

9. The Long Good Friday (1980)

10. Massacre at Central High (1976)

11. Night Moves (1975)

12. On the Silver Globe (1988)

13. The Parallax View (1974)

14. Queen of Black Magic (1981)

15. Roadgames (1981)

16. Rolling Thunder (1977)

17. Scissors (1991)

18. The Seventh Curse (1986)

19. Strange Days (1995)

20. To Live and Die in LA (1985)

I could keep going.  I can always keep going.  Anyway, check back in two weeks for my favorite movies of 2021 that DID come out in 2021.

  1. Fantastic list, from which I've only seen a few. Most are on my 'blindspot' list, but quite a few are not and thus, I'm adding now thanks to Your post.
To Live and Die in L.A. is FANTASTIC. Freakin' Friedkin - always outstanding. Only thing in that one I have a hard time with is William Peterson, who seems to ALWAYS chew scenery. His name should have been "Haunches" for this one, as he's always striking that cop pose like he's covering the low to someone else's high. Still, all is forgiven because the overall flick is so damn great.
