Running again (kind of)

Wed: 227 lbs.

I ran today for the first time in weeks, but i kind of half-assed it, so i guess it doesn't really count. The dog was not cooperating very well (she wanted to stop and sniff everything rather than jog), and my headphones kept slipping out of my ears. But i like to make excuses. I'll do better later in the week.

My mom and i found Archie Manning's rookie card at an antique store last week. I know that a 1972 Topps football card is hardly an antique, but hey, who dat!

And yes, i now own an Archie Manning football card.

Yet another one of these things...

Just tell us who this is already!

Have One On Me

New Joanna Newsom! Hooray! You'll either love her or hate her (my wife hates her), so i'm not going to recommend this one. Instead, i recommend you sample Ms. Newsom's work, and then make the call.
Go over to NPR to stream the album in its entirety.

She does date Andy Samberg, so you know she's probably funny at least.

Psychic Reality/ LA Vampires

The spaced-out droney peeps over at Not Not Fun have done it again. Check out the awesome split 12" LP from Psychic Reality and LA Vampires. Very, very cool, and there's nudity on the cover. Hooray!

I also found Tool's "Undertow" on vinyl yesterday. Finally, i'm the coolest kid at the playground!

Your dad's name is Sylvester Stabone?

So, my wife and my brother both informed me today that Boner Stabone is missing (his actual name is Andrew Koenig). He went missing a week ago in Vancouver (Olympics?). That's fucking terrible. Boner was easily the best part of "Growing Pains." The worst part was everything else.

I want to know what the Canadians are doing about this. Alan Thicke is a fucking Canuck for Christ's sake. Get him on the trail.

Anyway, hoping for the best. We're all thinking about you Boner.

Odessa

Fri: 226 lbs.

Caribou has a new album coming out in April. The first single is called "Odessa." It is excellent. Go and grab the mp3 for free right here. What are you waiting for?

Tragedy boner

Ok, so a quick message to the barrage of people still floating around the wrecked building in north Austin...GO FUCKING HOME!

That's right. All you new affiliates and looky-loos need to take your cameras and your carnage boners and go back where you came from. You're turning the traffic in the area into bullshit. It's all a fucking mess because there are so many of you there. Really. It's not like we've never seen a plane crash into a fucking building before. Go home.

There are so many people hanging around the crash site, that (and i kid you not on this) planes are flying overhead with banner ads. Yes, you read that right. Fucking planes are flying advertising over the spot where a fucking plane crashed yesterday. I actually laughed out loud.

Once again, the story is over. A dipshit killed himself, and was such a sack of shit, he had to take one other guy with him. That's it. Go home.

Good night.

Front row seat for a (blown out of proportion) national news story

Not to further inundate anyone with Joe Stack's highly public suicide by plane crash, but it's not everyday you get a front row seat for this kind of shit. I work across the freeway from the crash site, and our building shook. I'm not sure if it was from the plane flying so low over us or if it was the explosion, but the ceiling and glass doors rumbled. Outside was nothing but dark smoke, fire, and gas fumes. I do want to give big kudos to all the firemen, police, and EMS responders who were literally there in less than 5 minutes after the crash. Way to go. And, i've got to give the opposite of kudos (finger wagging?) to the news networks who jumped on this thing like Osama Bin Laden was flying the fucking plane. It was a nasty suicide, and something that maybe deserves a couple of hours of broadcast time, but it's not 9-11. You're never going to have ratings like that again. Instead, you should focus on the 6 gold medals that the USA won yesterday and the bitchin aerial moves of Shaun White.

Anyhoo, everybody's got problems and no one likes to pay taxes, so next time someone has a problem, take some fucking Midol and go about your fucking day. Or, crash into my work so i can take the day off.

One last thing. Word on the street is that before Mr. Stack crashed a plane into the IRS, and before he set his house on fire, he supposedly set his cat on fire. Can anyone verify this? Blaming the IRS, your wife, the Catholic church, your CPA, and George Bush is one thing, but what did Mittens do to incur the wrath of Stack. Come on man!

Christmas Island and White Dog

Wed: 227 lbs.

Picked up "Blackout Summer" by Christmas Island. It's another winner from In The Red Records. Each track comes off like a much beloved garage pop-rock nugget, care-free and unpretentious. And that means i really like it.

On a more somber note, i watched Samuel Fuller's "White Dog" last night. Fuller ("The Naked Kiss"/"Shock Corridor") really goes all out on the anti-racism here. The film is about an actress who hits a dog with her car, nurses it back to health, and forms a bond with it, only discover that he's been trained to attack black people. Attempts to recondition the dog follow.

It's a tough watch, but very good.

And it's probably good that my wife skipped out on this one.

The Morning Benders - Excuses

Just heard "Excuses" by The Morning Bender from their upcoming LP, "Big Echo." Think awesome, catchy 60's pop with a brilliant string section, all produced by Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear). One of the best songs i've heard so far this year.

Go to their website for a free mp3 of the jam. The album comes out on March 9th. Hooray!
