This may be the nerdiest kind of music i listen to, but synth artist Old Tower, and the very niche style of music he composes, a kind of dark, medieval-tinged, synthetic chamber pop, just feels right some mornings. Until a couple of days ago, i was unaware that there was a genre of music called dungeon synth. Essentially it's a mix of dark chamber music and minstrel melodies performed with synthesizers, with some artistes skewing towards more haunting or ominous works and others making something not too far off from something you'd hear at a Renaissance Fair. I much prefer the former to the latter, so here's Netherlands artist Old Tower. The album artwork for "The Rise of the Specter" was enough to pique my interest, and the two tracks sound like descending down a long and eerie corridor, the muffled whimperings of shackled prisoners begging to see daylight echoing further down the chamber.
