He passed away last month, so let's pour one out composer and multi-instrumentalist Joe Byrd by listening to some of his work with The United States of America.  The band's 1968 self-titled album is essential for anyone with even a passing interest in psychedelic rock.  Listen to "The American Metaphysical Circus" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Patriot's Lullabye

One of my favorite '60s psych records is the wonderful self-titled album from The United States of America from 1968.  You can hear its influence in bands like Broadcast and Stereolab.  The following year, member Joe Byrd would go on to make "The American Metaphysical Circus" with his group Joe Byrd and The Field Hippies.  While that album doesn't quite reach the heights of its predecessor, it's a strange, cool trip all the same.  Check out "Patriot's Lullabye" below, our Daily Jam.
