Daily Jam (Shame Week) - Will You Still Love Me

Chicago.  Not the city.  The band.  I've been a sometimes closeted, sometimes open fan of the group for most of my life, particularly on the dreamy vocals of Peter Cetera.  But i also really dig on the post-Cetera output, especially the 1986's "18."  Cetera jumped ship to go solo, and the band brought in Jason Scheff for bass and vocals.  He did a pretty good Cetera impersonation i guess.  Anyway, he had the hits his first at bat and those hits ingrained themselves into my 7-year old brain.  Here's "Will You Still Love Me," our Daily Jam and conclusion to Shame Week.

Daily Jam (Shame Week) - MMMBop

I don't know if i actually like this song.  Of course i scoffed at it when it came out way back when, but in reflection, it's actually...fun?  A few years back when i was standing in line to get into Fun Fun Fun Fest (RIP), the song was playing over the speakers at the gate entrance, and every single indie kid and metal head and punk rocker was totally into it.  We owned it.  So, here's "MMMBop" by the brothers Hanson, our Daily Jam.

Just pure, unadulterated cheese.  But i hear Air Supply's cover of Jennifer Rush's "The Power of Love (You Are My Lady)," and it's going to be in my head the rest of the day.  And maybe in my heart too.  Check it out below, our (shameful) Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (Shame Week) - Too Much

I often lament the fact that we never got a Bond theme written and recorded by Portishead, like it's just too perfect of a thing to exist anywhere outside of our minds and hearts.  On the flip side of that idea is that we were all also cheated out of a Spice Girls Bond theme.  It would have been perfection.  They were just so big and British, they could have provided the song for one of the stupider Brosnan outings.  What could have been.  What should have been.  Anyway, i'm just as horrified as the rest of you that i'm posting a Spice Girls song today, but i've secretly liked this song for 23 years.  So here's "Too Much," our Daily Jam.

So this is probably the most embarrassing thing i'm going to post all week, and considering what i think i have lined up for tomorrow, that's really saying something.  I know Starship is bad.  I've always known Starship is bad.  I don't know why i like this song.  I just can't help it you guys.  So here's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," the song from "Mannequin" and our Daily Jam.  (Hangs head.)

Billy Joel is one of those lame artists that everybody says they don't like, but deep down actually kinda sorta do.  So yeah, here's "Uptown Girl," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (Shame Week) - It Must Have Been Love

I try to discourage the idea of guilty pleasures.  When you like something, just like it full on.  There should be no guilt.  But there can certainly be shame.  Sometimes we all just like some real embarrassing shit, and with that in mind, welcome to "Shame Week" where we'll have a week's worth of pop songs that can make me blush.  First up is the gooey '80s pop ballad "It Must Have Been Love" from Roxette, best known for its use in "Pretty Woman."  This is one of songs that i've liked since it came out, but always kept my mouth shut because i was supposed to be listening to hip-hop or something.  And hearing it can instantly transport me back to some of the happier moments of elementary school.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
