Warpaint

Following up a post about DIIV with another about Warpaint.  It's like it's 2011 or something.  Anyhoo, the LA band just dropped a groovy new single with "Common Blue."  Check it out below and download it here from Rough Trade (the 7" is already sold out).

Kim Gordon - Murdered Out

Still lamenting the end of Sonic Youth all these years later, but today we get a new solo single from Kim Gordon to make us feel better for a fleeting moment.  "Murdered Out" features production from Justin Raisen who has worked with Sky Ferreira and Charli XCX in the past, and has Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa on the drums.  It's also an awesome, crunchy and anxious little noise nugget.  Listen below and download it from Matador.

Warpaint - New Song

Looks like we've got a new song, and an upcoming new album, from the dreamy LA four-piece Warpaint called, adequately enough, "New Song."  On the track, the ladies go full on summer vibes, crafting a piece of warm and synthy dance pop to sweat and move to.  Listen below and be on the lookout for the "Heads Up" LP from Rough Trade in September.

Daily Bowie (Cover Week) - Ashes to Ashes by Warpaint

Back in 2010, LA band Warpaint supplied a haunting and dreamy cover of "Ashes to Ashes" for the Bowie tribute album, "We Were So Turned On."  Listen below.

And now Warpaint covers Duran Duran

A couple weeks ago, Moby's cover of Duran Duran's "Rio" surfaced, and it was pretty good.  Now, we have LA female four piece Warpaint taking on that band's "The Chauffeur," which is probably my favorite track that Duran Duran ever recorded.  Warpaint's version is a smoky, hazy trip...and will now be stuck in my head for days.  Listen below, and look for "Making Patterns Rhyme: A Tribute to Duran Duran" on Manimal next month.
