Memphis punk band Aquarian Blood counts members of Ex-Cult and Nots among its lineup, and on their upcoming sophomore album "A Love that Leads to War," they're shifting gears from their more cacophonous past for something more eerie, earthy, and folky. Check out the first taste, "There's a World," below and dig on those Americana and spectral folk vibes. Then, pre-order here from Goner Records.

Nots
So many artists i didn't get the chance to see over SXSW, many of whom i'm still lamenting a week later. One of those was Memphis noisy post punk group Nots, whose new album "3" drops in May, full of jagged riffs and stabbing sounds. Listen to "Half Painted House" below and pre-order the record here from Goner.

Cobra Man
Generally when i think of the wonderful Memphis label Goner Records, my mind and ears are flooded with noisy garage rock and punk, and not disco. But disco we will get, and some bumping and grooving and powerful disco at that. LA duo Cobra Man kick out the synthy, butt-shaking jams with "Toxic Planet," the title track from their upcoming album. Listen and dance below and pre-order the record here.

The Nots
Memphis punk band The Nots are releasing their sophomore album "Cosmetic" next week on Goner, and this time around the girls are expanding on their short bursts of snarly punk rock and adding shreds of noise and experimental grooves and textures. And man, does it work. Listen to "Entertain Me" below, a blend of garage rock, post punk, and arty noise.

Angry Angles
Way back in the long, long ago that was 2006, a former Reatard, one Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr, more widely known as Jay Reatard, was busy writing and recording singles, EP's, and albums for his solo output, as well as working on a project with his then girlfriend Alix Brown called Angry Angles. The pair eventually broke up, and sadly the album was never completed and just kind of faded away, as Jay continued to make music on his own until his tragic death in 2010. I've been jonesing for new Reatard material ever since. And now, the fine folks at Goner Records are releasing Angry Angles' complete recordings in May. They are just what the garage punk doctor ordered. Listen to "Things Are Moving" below and howl.

Nots
Nothing like some frantic, noisy punk rock from a bunch of girls from Memphis to kick start your day. Take a listen to "Reactor" from the debut album by Nots, "We Are Nots," below and grab the album from the always excellent Goner Records.

Ex-Cult
Somehow on Saturday, i managed to overlook a new 7" release from Ex-Cult on Goner Records. The record features a different version of the track "Ties You Up" than what appears on the band's forthcoming album "Midnight Passenger." This version was recorded by Ty Segall and is appropriately raucous. There's also a sax in there...and i love the sax. Listen below.

Toxie
This actually came out a little while ago, but i feel it my duty to bring to you the excellent, sing-songy, girl garage rock of Memphis's Toxie. The "Newgate" 7" should be available from Goner Records. Listen below and prepare to have the jam stuck in your head for the rest of the weekend.
