Spotlights

April brings us new music from New York band Spotlights.  The mix of shoegaze and stoner metal on 2019's "Love & Decay" made for one of my favorite albums of that year, and while the album art for the upcoming "Alchemy for the Dead" may be a little too mid-'00s Hot Topic for my tastes, i'm still onboard.  Check out "Algorithmic" below and pre-order the record here from Ipecac.

Spotlights Cover Arcade Fire

New York space rock/doom metal band Spotlights have been churning out some really good cover tunes during quarantine, so far tackling tracks from Radiohead and Shudder to Think (both of those are totally worth your time).  And now their latest is a gorgeous and crunchy rendition of Arcade Fire's "Wake Up."  Check it out below and get it here from the band.

New York band Spotlights released one of my favorite albums of 2019, and now they're back with a new EP of crushing stoner metal meets space rock guitar riffs to blast us all to smithereens before the asteroids hit.  Listen to "Part IV" below and get the "We Are All Atomic" EP here from Blues Funeral Recordings.

My friend Shawn has been raving about New York trio Spotlights' latest opus over at his blog for the last week, and i finally sat down to give "Love & Decay" a good listen last night, and holy shit is it a beast.  A bombast of sound and beauty, the record is equal parts post metal, shoegaze, doom, post rock, and space rock, a heavy swirl of layered guitars atop pummeling drum blasts, crunchy, reverbed riffs, and buried, ethereal vocals that sound heavenly despite the cacophony surrounding them.  Listen to the album opening "Continue the Capsize" below and get the record here from Ipecac.
