Sarah Neufeld

Violinist and composer Sarah Neufeld, who you probably know from her work with Arcade Fire, is all set to release a new album of minimalist, neo-classical compositions in May on the great Paper Bag Records.  Check out the haunting and beautiful opening track "Stories" below and pre-order the "Detritus" LP here.

Spotlights Cover Arcade Fire

New York space rock/doom metal band Spotlights have been churning out some really good cover tunes during quarantine, so far tackling tracks from Radiohead and Shudder to Think (both of those are totally worth your time).  And now their latest is a gorgeous and crunchy rendition of Arcade Fire's "Wake Up."  Check it out below and get it here from the band.

Arcade Fire and Mavis Staples

Here's the new track from Arcade Fire that came out a couple days ago.  "I Give You Power" features singer and civil rights activist Mavis Staples providing additional vocals, giving the tune a sense of immediacy in our current political climate.  It's also kind of dancey and soulful.  Listen below.

Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld

Here's another one of those records from last year that for some reason or another completely fell off my radar.  Saxophonist Colin Stetson and violinist Sarah Neufeld (of Arcade Fire) create complex and breathtaking compositions, the two instruments pulsing and throbbing against each other, fingers massaging your cranial cavity, the sounds pushing you further in, a fantastic inner journey.  It's almost overwhelming.  Listen to "The Sun Roars into View" below and get the "Never Were the Way She Was" LP from Constellation Records.

Will Butler

Arcade Fire little brother Will Butler has a solo album on the horizon next year from Merge Records.  The first taste of "Policy" is album opener "Take My Side," a jangly and jumping piece of rock n' roll anxiety.  It's nice.  You should listen below.

Arcade Fire at COTA

We caught Arcade Fire at the Circuit of the Americas last night.  Watching concerts in a venue that big is normally not my thing, but the Montreal group put on a lovely and massive show as they usually do...confetti, dance parties, giant paper mache heads.  You know?  The usual.  Here are a few pics below.

Arcade Fire - Reflektor video

Despite some meticulous work to debut a new single today, the new Arcade Fire jam from the album of the same name actually leaked on Saturday.  You damn kids and your internet.  At any rate, there's a real disco vibe going on here (thanks James Murphy) and even David Bowie pops up.  Watch the Anton Corbijn directed video below and be on the lookout for the album on Merge at the end of October.
