Keeping up with the Deans this afternoon. Yesterday, Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500, Luna, and Dean & Britta fame announced upcoming new solo outing "That's the Price of Loving Me." Daily Jam - Little Red Record Co.
I mentioned a couple weeks back that i've been doing a dive into Galaxie 500 and the band's other projects after they broke up. I've been a fan of the group as well as Dean Wareham's Luna and other side projects for years, but had never really paid much attention to the other 2/3 of Galaxie 500, Damon & Naomi. I'm remedying the hell out of that now. Here's a track from their 1992 debut "More Sad Hits." Listen to "Little Red Record Co." below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Strange
I've been on a real Galaxie 500 bender lately, both the band's seminal output from the late '80s/early '90s and the offshoots and solo projects (Luna, Damon & Naomi, etc). Here's a track from 1989's "On Fire." Listen to "Strange" below, our Daily Jam.

Galaxie 500
It sure would be cool if old school Boston indie band Galaxie 500 were to reunite and give me a chance to see them live. At the moment, there's nothing like that in sight, but at least we're getting a sweet new collection of B-sides and rarities with the upcoming "Uncollected Noise New York '88-'90." Check out the previously unreleased "I Wanna Live" below and pre-order the LP here from Silver Current Records.

Luna Covers Lou Reed and David Bowie
Yesterday Luna dropped two new cover tunes into the ether, and they're both wonderful. Check out the faithful takes on Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love" and David Bowie's "Starman" below, and download both of them here from Double Feature Records.

Daily Jam - Falling Out of Love (With You)
When i was in college, a coworker at my part-time job on campus introduced me to The Magnetic Fields. I was instantly hooked to the simple yet refined pop sounds of Stephin Merritt, and found myself seeking out his completely discography, either with Magnetic Fields or other projects like Future Bible Heroes or The Gothic Archies. My favorite of the other groups has got to be The 6ths, a project that finds Merritt's songwriting and production paired with a slew of guest singers like Mary Timony, Lou Barlow, and more. Here's "Falling Out of Love (With You)" with vocals from Galaxie 500/Luna front man Dean Wareham, our Daily Jam.

Dean Wareham
Be it with Galaxie 500, Luna, with his wife Britta, or just on his own, there's just something about Dean Wareham's voice that sets me at ease. And that continues to be the case on his latest solo effort, "I Have Nothing to Say to The Mayor of L.A." Check out the lead-off track and single, "The Past Is Our Plaything" below and pre-order the album here from Double Feature Records.

Dean & Britta - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Speaking of Christmas covers raising money for good causes, Dean & Britta give us a wonderful take on John Lennon's and Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." The funds will be going to The Sled which provides assistance to underprivileged NYC public school students and their families. Do it. Listen below and get the music here from Double Feature Records.

Daily Jam - Moonshot
I've been on a little bit of a Galaxie 500 kick lately, most likely the result of the band's live "Copenhagen" album getting the vinyl reissue treatment for the first RSD drop back in August. And that Galaxie 500 kick led me on to Luna which then led me on to Dean & Britta. Check out the husband/wife duo's cover of Buffy Sainte Marie's "Moonshot" below, our Daily Jam.

Dean & Britta
Quarantine jams are just going to be a thing from here on out. Lockdown loops. Social distance tunes. Here's a new collection from Dean & Britta called "Quarantine Tapes." The pair have been making music for a long time, in the band Luna, or Dean with Galaxie 500 and Britta as the singing voice of Jem on the '80s cartoon show. Great pedigrees all around. Listen to "Neon Lights" below and get the album here from the duo.

Daily Jam - Blue Thunder
Galaxie 500 are one of those bands that once you finally start listening to them, you may find that they're all you want to listen to now. I love bands like that. Here's "Blue Thunder," our Daily Jam.

Sonic Advent Calendar: Day 3 - Listen, The Snow Is Falling
Maybe i'm kind of cheating here a little bit today, as "Listen, The Snow Is Falling" isn't so much a Christmas song as it is a winter song, but i'm using it anyway. So much seasonal music gets incorporated into holiday festivities, that it can be difficult to separate the two. Anyway, originally penned by Yoko Ono, i can't help but dig on Galaxie 500's 1990 cover version in all its Velvet Underground inspired glory. Listen below...the snow is falling.

Dean Wareham
Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500/Luna/Dean and Britta fame is set to release his first solo album in March on Sonic Cathedral. The self-titled record was produced by Jim James, and if first single "Holding Pattern" is any indication, it should be a wonderful little indie art-rock nugget. Listen below.
