Grimes - So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth

Finally getting around to listening to the latest track from Grimes, the floating and ethereal "So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth."  Yep.  Sounds like Grimes.  The upcoming "Miss Anthropocene" LP is out in February on 4AD.  Listen to the new single below.

Grimes & i_o - Violence

I'm gonna be straight with you here.  Grimes the person annoys the crap out of me.  But Grimes the pop artist i find fascinating and can't help but dig on the jams.  Here's a new one, "Violence," featuring an assist from someone called i_o.  Check out the video below.

Grimes - Pretty Dark Demo

So, apparently aside from working on a new album, Grimes is also writing a musical, or something akin.  Check out the slinky pop of the demo for "Pretty Dark" below.  As far as i know, it's not about workers' unions.

Grimes - We Appreciate Power

While she has certainly been doing her best to turn me away from her particular brand of pop music this year (i'm sorry, but hanging around Elon Musk and defending his hubris and bullshit, much less dating that gremlin makes you a dipshit), "We Appreciate Power," the latest jam from Grimes is an absolute banger.  Featuring an assist from pop artist HANA, the song takes Grimes's usual quirky, freaky pop music and pairs it with some industrial oomph.  Watch the video below and be on the lookout for a new album sometime in the near-ish future.

Grimes - Medieval Warfare

"Suicide Squad" came out last week, and it's supposed to be one big hot mess, but at least it's got a pretty killer new jam from Grimes on the soundtrack.  Listen to "Medieval Warfare" below.

Grimes - Kill V. Maim

I've got to admit that i'm not as taken with "Art Angels," the latest from weirdo pop mutant Grimes, as virtually every other music website and blog writer is, but "Kill V. Maim" has been stuck in my head all weekend long.  It's a bouncy, punch the air little number that maintains Grimes' weirdness better than most of the rest of he album.  Take a listen below and get the record from 4AD.

Nicole Dollanganger

Apparently Grimes started a music label called Eerie Organization.  Good for her.  The first release is a debut album, "Natural Born Losers," a collection of broken, warped, and floaty alt-folk pop hymns from Nicole Dollanganger.  First taste "You're So Cool" sounds pretty nice.  Take a listen below.

Grimes - Go

I'm always so confused as to the state of indie and popular music, and the way the two seem to intertwine and blur lines these days.  We are now living in a world where Miley Cyrus hangs out and performs with The Flaming Lips.  And apparently, Grimes and Blood Diamond wrote a song for Rihanna...which was then rejected by her...and then just recorded by Grimes and Blood Diamond themselves.  "Go" is really poppy.  I mean really poppy.  Like, i could see the tweens of the world just eating it up.  I'm not even sure i like it.  It just seems so odd to me.

I am getting old.

Doldrums

Here's some new, warped digital-pop from Montreal's Doldrums.  "Anomaly" comes from the upcoming "Lesser Evil" LP due at the end of February from Arbutus.  The record was allegedly recorded on a laptop borrowed from fellow Canadian weirdo Grimes.  Listen below.
