Jacco Gardner - Fading Cosmos

Here's a new single from Dutch psych rock artist Jacco Gardner.  "Fading Cosmos" appropriately enough has a real planetarium vibe to it, sound stretching out to the far reaches of space and the folds of you mind following.  Groovy stuff.  Listen below and pre-order the 12" here via Full Time Hobby.

Jacco Gardner

Dutch, baroque psych pop artist Jacco Gardner has a new album of swirly, trippy music headed our way in November.  "Somnium" is inspired by early sci-fi literature, a musical reflection of the future past.  Listen to the instrumental track "Volva" below and pre-order the record here from Polyvinyl.

Jacco Gardner

Dutch psych rock artist Jacco Gardner is back with a new album of 60's psych-inspired pop nuggets called "Hypnophobia."  Take a listen to the darker edged "Find Yourself" below, grab the album from Polyvinyl Records in April, and if you're in Austin next week, catch the man himself at any of his SXSW appearances.

New music from Jacco Gardner

Last March, Dutch artist Jacco Gardner was easily one of the best acts i saw during SXSW.  His album "Cabinet of Curiosities" is a total contender for my favorite albums of the year, and the man's got a new 7" single out on Trouble In Mind.  A-side "The End of August" continues the Gardner's exploration of 60's psych rock, utilizing a folky sing-songy sound as a harbinger of the impending Autumn.  Pretty stuff.  Listen below and get the record here.

SXSW day 1 pics

And we're off.  I drank too much today.  Free beer + hanging out with one of my oldest friends in the world generally gets us both in trouble.  We did manage to catch some great music though, courtesy of Consequence of Sound.  Check out the pics below.

In the evening, we caught a little bit of a different show that was supposed to include a performance from Jandek, but he cancelled last minute, which made me a sad panda.  The synth-goth of Troller made up for it though.

SXSW pre-party pics

The good folks at Panache Booking put together a lovely free party today to kick of this year's SXSW.  It was a great line up of some bands i know and lot that i do not (as SXSW is supposed to be).  Saw some great stuff, and i'll be linking some tracks from these bands in the near future and see if anyone has any releases on the horizon.

I would have loved to stay for the whole gig, but i've got other things to attend to (my dog and my pregnant wife to be exact).  Here's to tomorrow's parties.  Check out some pics below.

Jacco Gardner

Oh when bands recall the sounds and wonders of the sunshine and psychedelia of the 60's, it is a mixed bag. Sometimes it comes off as awful aping, and then there are those bands that manage to hit the proverbial nail on the head, sound both retro and in the now (see Dungen or Tame Impala).  Netherlands native Jacco Gardner fits in that latter group, and his new LP "Cabinet of Curiosities" is a delight.  It has elements of Brian Wilson and Syd Barrett and Donovan and all those other drug-taking, song-writing cats, paying obvious tribute to what came before but still sounds fresh.  I love it.  Get it from Trouble In Mind and listen to "The Ballad of Little Jane" below.
