Calvin Love

I caught Calvin Love a few years back and during his SXSW set, he wavered back and forth between quirky indie pop and garage rock.  New album "Lavender" is heading our way in a few days, and it finds the artist in more of a dreamy Americana mood, playing the kind of classic rock and doo-wop indebted music that would fit perfectly in a David Lynch movie.  Check out "Sailin' On" below and get the record here.

Calvin Love - Cool

Last year when i saw Calvin Love at SXSW, the man was singing warped and strange little pop-folk jams, but this year, he put on a more debonair and slick 80's synth yacht rock vibe.  And he owned it, as evidenced on his latest "Cool/Wild Blue" 7" on Hit City USA.  Listen to the A-side below.

SXSW 2014, Day 3

Thoughts, prayers, and love to all the people, family, and friends of those affected by the tragic car accident last night.  A general somberness hung over the duration of the day's shows and everyone was just a little bit nicer to each other today.

Here's a few pics from the day...

Calvin Love

Edmonton, Canada's Calvin Love crafts warm little lo-fi pop songs, catchy aural candy from the heart and the 4-track recorder.  His "New Radar" LP is bedroom jamming done right.  Get it from Autumn Tone and listen to and download "Magic Hearts" below.

SXSW pre-party pics

The good folks at Panache Booking put together a lovely free party today to kick of this year's SXSW.  It was a great line up of some bands i know and lot that i do not (as SXSW is supposed to be).  Saw some great stuff, and i'll be linking some tracks from these bands in the near future and see if anyone has any releases on the horizon.

I would have loved to stay for the whole gig, but i've got other things to attend to (my dog and my pregnant wife to be exact).  Here's to tomorrow's parties.  Check out some pics below.
