SUMAC

Mamiffer

I didn't realize we were getting new music from Mamiffer this month, but here we are.  The project of Faith Coloccia and Aaron Turner, the duo make droney, psychedelic pieces of ambient folk, ethereal clips of sound for the masses.  Check out "River of Light" below and get "The Brilliant Tabernacle" album here from the band.

Keiji Haino & SUMAC

Japanese artist Keiji Haino and metal supergroup SUMAC are back with another collaborative effort, the immense and immensely titled "Even for just the briefest moment / Keep charging this 'Expiation' / Plug in to making it slightly better" LP.  Experimental metal for everyone!  Listen to "Now i've gone and done it i've spilled holy water (just water) over that thing called healing music.................... / There was a faint 'Tsk' noise" below and get the album here from Trost Records.

Mamiffer

Here's some new gloomy, doomy ambient-psych-drone-metal kind of stuff from Mamiffer, the duo of Faith Coloccia and her husband Aaron Turner (formerly of Isis).  "Flower of the Field" comes from new album "Statu Nascendi" and plays out like some twisted, stoned journey into the center of a mysterious and foreign city.  Listen below and get the album from SIGE.

Barnett + Coloccia

Experimental record label Blackest Ever Black just keeps knocking it out of the park this year with each subsequent release.  The label's latest offering is the first collaborative effort from Barnett + Coloccia (Alex Barnett from Oakeater and Coloccia from Mamiffer).  "Retrieval" is a glowing, sometimes haunting mix of tones and drone, an atmospheric ambient work to soundtrack the creation of the universe...or its ultimate destruction.  Take a listen to "Hallway" below and look for the album in the very near future.

Mamiffer & Circle

On again off again experimental metal label Hydra Head Records always shines when they put like minded artists in a room together and hit record.  Weirdo acts Mamiffer and Circle gathered in a 19th century church in Finland to give us the epic collaborative "Enharmonic Intervals," a smoking, brooding, cascading mantra of organ, chimes, deep and echoed vocals, and hard, repetitive drums.  There's a definite Swans-vibe going on here.  It's organic,dark, and full, and unbelievably cool.  Take a seat and listen to "Tumulus" below.  You're in church now.
