Keiji Haino & SUMAC

Japanese artist Keiji Haino and metal supergroup SUMAC are back with another collaborative effort, the immense and immensely titled "Even for just the briefest moment / Keep charging this 'Expiation' / Plug in to making it slightly better" LP.  Experimental metal for everyone!  Listen to "Now i've gone and done it i've spilled holy water (just water) over that thing called healing music.................... / There was a faint 'Tsk' noise" below and get the album here from Trost Records.

Russian Circles

Russian Circles - Vorel

Hey, we've got new music from Russian Circles headed our way in August, the band's 6th(!) album "Guidance."  Those familiar with the group's style of heavy (both sonically and figuratively) post metal will be happy, as the trio seem to know each other inside and out, like some kind of old jazz band that's been riffing off of each other for years.  Listen to "Vorel" below and get the record from Sargent House.

Sumac

Dig on the crunchy, death-doom riffs and annihilation that is metal trio super-group Sumac.  Featuring members of Old Man Gloom, Russian Circles, and Baptists, the band uses all of their distinct talents and influences to create a kind of hybrid metal sound, full of prog leanings, ambient explorations, and full on cacophonous assault.  Listen to "Rigid Man" below and get the "What One Becomes" LP in June on Thrill Jockey.

I know i just posted about post-rock metal act Russian Circles' upcoming new album "Memorial" the other day, but i just heard the album closing title track today, and it features haunting and wistful vocals from the awesome Chelsea Wolfe.  This song soars.  Take a listen below and look for the LP in October on Sargent House.

I have been digging on the heavy metal lately.  I'm not sure why.  It's probably something to do with the economic and political climate of the moment.  Anyway, reason or not, i'm finding all kinds of excellent music on the horizon, like the new one from post-metal instrumental juggernauts Russian Circles.  Listen to the driving and crunching "Deficit" from the forthcoming "Memorial" below and look for the record soon on Sargent House.
