Emma Ruth Rundle

Emma Ruth Rundle has been on a tear lately.  The goth, metal, and folk influenced artist has released a slew of excellent material over the last couple of years, including some collaborations with folks like Chelsea Wolfe and Thou, and her latest is a haunting collection of ambient folk and drone, a subdued soundtrack to a decaying earth.  Get "EG2: Dowsing Voice" here via Sargent House and listen to the excellently titled, album closing "In Sadness for Our Dying World (here come the Christians)" below.

Helms Alee

Seattle band Helms Alee has been chugging in for a while now, and that's great because sometimes their blend of grunge rock, stoner metal riffs, and darkened psych are just what the doctor ordered.  New album "Keep This Be the Way" is out now on Sargent House.  Listen to the title track below, download the album here, and order the vinyl here.

Emma Ruth Rundle

Rejoice, as Emma Ruth Rundle is set to release a new EP at the end of the month.  Our first taste comes with "Pipe Organ Song," a stripped down and moody piece of dark folk consisting of pipe organ and vocals.  Check it out below and pre-order "Orpheus Looking Back" here from Sargent House.

Alto Arc

Yesterday saw the release of the debut, self-titled EP from supergroup Alto Arc.  The band consists of Trayer Tryon of Hundred Waters, producer Danny L Harle, Deafheaven's George Clarke, and makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench.  Death Grips and Hella member Zach Hill even shows up for a track.  The project's result is a hard describe mix of electronics, screaming, noise, soaring synths, and an all around gothic vibe.  It's cool, and you probably won't hear anything else that sounds quite like it today.  Check out the album opening "The Model Gospel" below and get the EP here from Sargent House.

Chelsea Wolfe Covers Joni Mitchell

Deafheaven

Deafheaven has a new album heading our way in August, "Infinite Granite," and going off of the first single, they're trying something new this time out.  "Great Mass of Color" finds the band leaning into the dreamier, poppier parts of their sound, foregoing George Clarke's usual anguished and growling wail for something prettier for lack of a better word.  There are falsettos in there and everything.  My jury is still out on this one, as much as i like for artists to push themselves in different directions, but it's worth a listen.  Check it out below, pre-order the digital version of the record here and the vinyl here from Sargent House.
