King Dude

We've got new music headed our way later this month from the always dependable King Dude.  The artist's intoxicating mix of folk, goth, rockabilly, country, and more is always something to look forward to.  "Music To Make War To" is out on August 24th.  Listen to "Velvet Rope" below, get the album digitally from the artist here, and pre-order the vinyl here from Van Records.

King Dude - In The Eyes of The Lord (Country Version)

Gothic/rockabilly/dark folk artist King Dude loves to rework his old songs into something new every now and again, and most recently, he tackled older tunes "In The Eyes of The Lord" and "Why Must I Go On."  Originally from the 2011 album "Love," the single's A-side has been changed from an exotic, Gothic dirge into a dusty, dark country jam.  Listen below and get it from Not Just Religious Music.

King Dude

Fresh off of a split single with the legendary Julee Cruise, King Dude is prepping a new album of gothy, rockabilly-tinged Americana called "Sex."  Listen to album opener "Holy Christos," featuring Foie Gras on backing vocals below, and pre-order the record from Not Just Religious Music.

Julee Cruise and King Dude

Of all the things i expected to come across today, new music from Julee Cruise certainly wasn't on that list.  Best known for her haunting vocal contributions to the soundtrack for David Lynch's "Twin Peaks," Cruise carries a smoky mystique about her that has been highly influential to artists of a similar ilk for the last 25 years.  On the new 7" split with dark folk and rockabilly troubadour King Dude, aptly titled "Julee Cruise and King Dude Sing Each Other's Songs For You," Cruise sings the King Dude penned "Animal" on the A-side, while he takes on "Rockin' Back Inside My Heart" from Cruise's 1989 album "Floating into the Night" on the reverse.  The duo feel perfectly and heavenly aligned to make music together, and i hope this is just the beginning of a Julee Cruise resurgence.  I'd also be down with King Dude supplying some music for any future David Lynch project.  Pre-order the record (in one of four colors) from Not Just Religious Music, and listen to both tracks below.

Foie Gras

Like wandering around some foreign desert, lost and alone...tired...thirsty...the eyes of preying animals watching your every move...waiting for you to drop or let down your guard for only a moment, the sounds of Foie Gras' new album, "Innermost Shrine, Heavily Gilded" are both beautiful and foreboding.  The band's brand of droning Americana sounds like the sun going dark on parched earth, like taking a breath and walking calmly into the abyss.  Listen to "Carcass" below and grab the cassette from Not Just Religious Music.

King Dude - Deal with the Devil

Here's a new, haunting and somber dark-folk jam from the ever-dependable King Dude.  "Deal with the Devil" sounds like the lament of a broken man at the end of everything, years and years of regret transformed into a dark dirge, a procession into the abyss.  Listen below and grab the 7" from Not Just Religious Music.

King Dude

Gothic folk rockabilly troubadour King Dude has a new full length album out next month on his own Not Just Religious Music label.  "Fear" finds the dude taking a far more aggressive and sinister approach to his brand of dark Americana.  Take a listen to "Fear Is All You Know" below and tremble.

King Dude and Chelsea Wolfe

Last year King Dude and Chelsea Wolfe released a split 7" for Record Store Day.  In March, the two are releasing a new 7", this time teaming together like some sort of Gothic-folk version of Nancy and Lee.  I wholeheartedly approve of this duo's endeavor and would like to encourage more of it in the future.  Listen to "Be Free" below and look for the "Sing More Songs Together..." 7" on Not Just Religious Music next month.
