Theodor Bastard

Here's some dark and icy gothic electro-pop from Russian band Theodor Bastard.  Check out slightly trip-hop-tinged "Sverkay" below and pre-order the band's forthcoming "▽" LP here from Season of Mist.

GAEREA

Next month, god willing, i'm going to get to see Zeal & Ardor perform in Austin along with opening act Zetra.  The other opening act is the masked Portuguese metal band GAEREA who just dropped their new album "Coma" last month, a blistering mix of black and death metal.  Check out the very appropriately and timely titled track "Hope Shatters" below and get the LP here from Season of Mist.

NAUT

Bristol band NAUT just released their new album "Hunt," a collection of tracks smashing the sounds of post punk, darkwave, goth, death rock, and '80s British heavy metal into one glorious aesthetic.  Check out "Unity of Opposites" below and get the record here from Season of Mist.

Numenorean

For better or worse, a lot of metal is venturing into that crossover phase, incorporating more elements and sounds from different genres and expanding the very idea of what heavy metal can be.  I think it's a great thing.  Anyway, the latest effort from Canadian metal band Numenorean wades into that black metal meets post rock kind of sound with some added goth and alt-rock to muddy things up a little.  Grab the "Adore" LP here from Season of Mist and listen to the epic title track below.

Nightbringer

I guess Colorado is as good a place as any to spawn some black metal.  There's snow and mountains and wilderness...so yeah, makes sense.  Doom and darkness purveyors Nightbringer just release their latest screeching ominous opus via Season of Mist, and it's a world scorcher.  Grab "Terra Damnata" here and listen to album closer "Serpent Sun" below.

Kylesa - Lost and Confused

October continues to look like a pretty goddamn amazing month for new music, so we may as well go ahead and throw a new record from Savannah metal band Kylesa into the mix.  "Exhausting Fire" hits October 2nd on Season of Mist, but go ahead and listen to increasingly psych-metal vibes of "Lost and Confused" below.

Kylesa - Vulture's Landing

I've really been digging everything i've been hearing from Kylesa's upcoming new album "Ultraviolet."  Of late, the band has been combining their metal riffs with more of a shoegaze kind of thing.  With Laura Pleasants on lead vocals, there's almost a Curve feel to the whole thing...but with more balls.  Listen to "Vulture's Landing" below and look for the new album in May on Season of Mist.

Kylesa

Dark, cold, dread.  The latest from Savannah metal group Kylesa finds the band venturing into icy Goth territory, aided by the vocals of member Laura Pleasants on "Unspoken."  This is doom music for the end.  Look for new album "Ultraviolet" in May from Season of Mist, but listen to "Unspoken" now below.
