Simon Hanes

Several years ago at SXSW, i caught New York band Tredici Bacci, a wild and eclectic band that played psych and pop to craft a kind of avant garde faux soundtrack to a series of '60 Italian films that never existed.  It was truly unique stuff.  Well, now front man Simon Hanes is set to release his new solo effort "Gargantua" next week, and it sounds like nothing else as well, like an experimental opera made for art school devils and demonic theater kids.  Check out "Hekla 1970" below and pre-order the album here from Pyroclastic Records.

Daily Jam - Colouring of Pigeons

Swedish electronic duo The Knife always kept things weird, but probably never as much so than on their 2010 collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, "Tomorrow, In a Year."  The stand out track, "Colouring of Pigeons," mixed up electronic beats, icy synth tones, and operatic vocals for something haunting and otherworldly.  Listen to it below, our Daily Jam.

LINGUA IGNOTA

Experimental noise artist LINGUA IGNOTA has a real talent in making music that's equal parts jarring, terrifying, and mesmerizing.  And she's got a new album headed our way in July, that if the first single is any indication, is going to be an absolute beast of a record.  Check out "Butcher of the World," an intense and creeping mix of noise, metal, opera, and classical music.  The artist screams and wails into the abyss alongside bits of crusty drone and tape loop and segments of Henry Purcell's "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" (also known as the theme from "A Clockwork Orange"), before fading away into haunting sung vocals, an eerie reprieve from what's to come.  Listen below and pre-order the "Caligula" LP here from Profound Lore.

Fucked Up - Voce Rubata

Canadian newspaper "The Globe and Mail" teamed up with The Canadian Opera Company and Canadian record label Arts & Crafts to put out a six song album of Canadian artists making music inspired by 2014 new events.  It is called "Broadsheet Music: A Year in Review," and Fucked Up contributed a 17-minute opera track called "Voce Rubata."  It is a legit opera song, and seems so left field for the punk band, that it almost feels perfect.  Listen below.
