Though he's been doing the primarily musician thing for a few years now, John Carpenter's filmography still weighs heavy, both in genre filmmaking and in film score composition. The number of artists and bands out there influenced by Carpenter's sleek and spooky synthesizer accompaniment are too numerous to even go into, hordes of musicians making their own faux soundtracks. And that's not even going into the many labels reissuing all of these old original soundtracks. Anyway, the good people at Sacred Bones are compiling many of Carpenter's movie themes into one collection, the aptly named "Anthology (Movie Themes 1974-1998)." This is a fantastic starting point for new fans, and another excellent and beautiful must-have for the old hats like myself. Get it in October and listen to the theme from "In the Mouth of Madness" below.
