Perturbator Covers

Earlier this year, French synth wave artist Perturbator released his his latest album, the techno and industrial tinged "Lustful Sacraments."  And i missed it when it originally dropped at the beginning of the summer, but he also released an EP featuring other artists cover the track "Excess."  It's a cool assortment of artists too, from the industrial noise of Author & Punisher to the grindcore of Pig Destroyer.  Check out the sleek and lurking version from HEALTH below and download the whole thing here via Blood Music.

Perturbator

It looks like May is bringing us a new full-length LP from French synth wave maestro James Kent, better known around most parts as Perturbator.  "Lustful Sacraments" sounds like it's going to be a little bit of a departure from previous efforts, with first single "Death of the Soul" sounding like some late '80s/early '90s gothic industrial techno.  Sign me up.  Watch the video for the single below and head over here to Blood Music to pre-order.

Öxxö Xööx

Nothing like watching your stupid football team blow it in the final minute of a big game to make you want to listen to some French, avant garde, and dramatic black metal.  So here's the latest from French, avant garde, and dramatic black metal band Öxxö Xööx to try to center me.  Listen to "3ën" below and snag the new album "Ÿ" here from Blood Music.

Perturbator - Excess

Much thanks to Shawn for the heads up that we've got some new music from Perturbator in the pipeline.  The artist has said that he's done with the synth wave genre, and new jam "Excess" seems to go along with that attitude.  The song feels part darkwave pop and part industrial techno.  Check it out below, and be on the lookout for a new album sometime this year on Blood Music.

Astronoid - I Dream in Lines

Boston band Astronoid's 2016 album "Air" was one of my favorite records that year, and now we've got the sophomore, self-titled follow up headed our way on February 1st from Blood Music.  I'm somewhat of a sucker for the band's blend of black metal, shoegaze, post rock, prog, and emo, the shredding riffs and blast beats giving extra oomph to the soaring, angelic vocals.  Watch the video for new single "I Dream in Lines" below and pre-order here.

Perturbator - B-Sides and Remixes Vol. II

A few days ago, i posted about French synth wave producer Perturbator's new collection of B-sides and remixes, and lo and behold, now we've got a second volume.  Hooray!  Listen to "Rage Main Theme (Score)" below and get "B-Sides and Remixes Vol. II" here from Blood Music.

Perturbator

Synth wave maestro Perturbator has a new album of B-sides and remixes out, coincidentally enough entitled "B-Sides and Remixs Vol. 1."  Listen to the artist's mix of fellow synth wave rager GosT's "Behemoth," and get your bangers out.  Then get it here from Blood Music.

Toby Driver

Crafting maybe the most mellow and gorgeous record ever released on the Finnish metal label Blood Music, Kayo Dot member Toby Driver's latest solo album, "They Are the Shield" is a lush and somber mix of chamber music, prog rock, and classical compositions.  In some ways, the whole thing plays like some kind of alternate reality impression of a deep cut King Crimson song.  Listen to the beautifully haunting "Glyph" below and get the record here.

MASTER BOOT RECORD

I am the first to admit that this whole project is ridiculous, but there is something about it that's just so goddamn fun, that i can't stop myself from listening.  MASTER BOOT RECORD combines elements of heavy metal and chiptune synth pop to create an absolutely glorious listening experience.  It's like if demons were making video game music or something.  And on new album "Direct Memory Access," the artist has now mixed some growling vocals into the mix courtesy of French metal band Öxxö Xööx.  Listen to "DMA 4 CASCADE" below and get the album here from Blood Music.

Hollywood Burns

Horror scores and techno just mix okay!  I don't know why they do, but they do.  Anyway, here's some new horror movie inspired synth wave techno music from Paris artist Hollywood Burns.  Listen to "Carnal Encounters of the Third Kind" below and get "Invaders" here or here from Blood Music.

GosT

Of all the recent horror soundtrack indebted synth wave acts coming out of the ether these last few years, none seems to have skewed quite so techno as Dallas area artist GosT.  Combining a host of frenetic techno beats with screaming synthesizers, menacing tones, occasional blasts of black metal, and a whole lot of Satan, GosT's work sounds something akin to the godless thumps of the house DJ in hell.  Even at its poppiest, like "Sigil" from new album "Possessor," there's still evil afoot...and plenty of shaky, grinding, dancing as well.  Listen below, and get the album from Blood Music.

GosT

It's overcast and rainy here in Austin, and has been for a few days now, so here's some Satan-indebted retro-techno from synth artist GosT.  The artist's upcoming "Non Paradisi" LP is due at the end of September from Blood Music, but in the meantime, check out the delirious and horror-fueled video for "Maleficarum" below.

Astronoid

Wow.  Where to even start with Boston metal band Astronoid?  Their blistering blast beats and shredding, wailing guitar licks coming at you so energetically and frenetically as to knock your head off of your body.  It's like this massive, swelling, and triumphant take on the genre's current forays into post-metal exploration, a cool mix of post-rock atmosphere, shoegazey caresses, and the aforementioned blast beats to the face.  And then the vocals come in, and not the screaming, growling howls you might have been expecting, but rather a gorgeous and clean layer of voices singing in harmonious glory.  I can't help but feel that this is what Bill and Ted were striving for.  Listen to the excellently titled "Up and Atom" below and grab the "Air" album here, courtesy of Blood Music.

Perturbator - Sentient

May sees the release of a brand spanking new Perturbator record!  That's awesome news for those of us who enjoy retro-futuristic, sci-fi synth jams.  Watch the video for "Sentient" below, featuring vocals from Hayley Stewart and some 16-bit animated boobs (so NSFW?), and pre-order the "Uncanny Valley" LP from Blood Music while they're still available.

Öxxö Xööx

Here is some ridiculous and awesome heavy metal from France's Öxxö Xööx, an avant garde doom-hybrid full of operatic highs and crunching, abyss-seeking lows.  New album "Nämïdäë" plays like some kind "Metalocalypse" riff, but man it's a lot of fun.  Listen to "Därkäë" below and get the album from Blood Music.

Perturbator

I recently got turned on to French synth maestro Perturbator through horror and pop culture site Bloody Disgusting, and then get reminded about how awesome it is by the ever vigilant Shawn Baker.  New album "Dangerous Days" is due later in the month on Blood Music, though it seems to be selling out fast.  Watch the video for "She Is Young, She Is Beautiful, She Is Next" below.
