Psychic Ills & Gibby Haynes

Apparently back in 2010, psych rock band Psychic Ills recorded some material with the Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes for RVNG Intl.'s FRKWYS collaborative series.  And now, it's finally seeing the light of day as "FRKWYS Vol. 4.5: Nowhere in the Night."  Check out "Something Like That" below and order the record here.

Elizabeth Hart & Hope Sandoval

Last year, Psychic Ills front man Tres Warren passed away suddenly at age 41.  Next month, band member Elizabeth Hart along with the rest of the band's surviving members are set to release a tribute album to their friend with "Songs for Tres."  Check out the beautiful and melancholy "I'll Walk with You" below featuring additional vocals from Hope Sandoval, and pre-order the album here from Sacred Bones.  Proceeds from the album will benefit RAICES.

Psychic Ills

Sad to hear that Psychic Ills front man Tres Warren passed away a week ago.  Cause of death has not been released, but he was only 41, which just hits me a little too close to home.  The band were reportedly writing material for a new record that unfortunately had not been recorded yet, but they did manage to record a couple of covers, which are out now on Sacred Bones.  Listen to their take of The Beach Boys' "Never Learn Not to Love" below and get the 7" here.

Psychic Ills and Hope Sandoval

I posted a song from the upcoming new Psychic Ills LP a couple days ago that's got me really excited for the release of "Inner Journey Out."  And now, today, i realize that another track from the record features Hope Sandoval.  That's awesome!  The blend of psych, Americana, and dreampop soothes the soul and makes the heart swell.  Listen to "I Don't Mind" below and get the record in two weeks from Sacred Bones (who are just killing it lately).

Psychic Ills

Psych rock duo Psychic Ills are set to release their fifth album, "Inner Journey Out," next month on Sacred Bones, and this new record finds the band traversing in the dusty atmospherics of fuzzed-out Americana...and they nail it.  Think of it as a kind of psychedelic alt-country, dirt under fingernails, grass-fueled, sepia-toned road trips, and the hum of a hundred years.  Listen to "Baby" below and...oh my God, that pedal steel!
