Sky Ferreira

And we've got a new track from Sky Ferreira, her first song since "Downhill Lullaby" three years ago, which was her first new material in six years before that.  Anyway, maybe someday we'll get that "Masochism" sophomore effort we've been hearing about since 2015.  Is it the new "Dear Tommy?"  Time will tell.  For the time being though, enjoy the new soaring, synth-laden new single "Don't Forget."  Listen below.

Charli XCX & Sky Ferreira

Every now and again things get a little poppy around here, and so we have the latest single from UK pop artist Charli XCX, this time around featuring an assist from Sky Ferreira, an artist whom i will admittedly always stan for.  Anyway, the two just released "Cross You Out," and as should be expected, it's pretty catchy.  Check it out below.

Sky Ferreira - Downhill Lullaby

I was a big fan of Sky Ferreira's 2013 debut album "Night Time, My Time," and its mix of pop, rock, light, and darkness, but she's been kind of elusive ever since then, tumultuous relationships both personal and professional and whatnot.  I think the last i saw anything of her was when she appeared in an episode of "Twin Peaks: The Return" back in 2017.  Anyway, she's prepping a sophomore release, "Masochism," a record she's been teasing for years, and we've got our first taste.  "Downhill Lullaby" is a beautiful and kind of ominous swirl of strings and sound featuring production from Jorge Elbrecht and Dean Hurley (of David Lynch sound design fame).  It's great and has me legit pumped for the new record to be released...sometime.  Listen below.

Iceage feat. Sky Ferreira

Earlier this year, we got to hear a brand new tune from Denmark post punk band Iceage, "Catch It," and it seemed some album news would be following.  And now it has.  The band's new record "Beyondless" is due in May on Matador.  While we're waiting for that to drop, listen to new single "Pain Killer" featuring some guest vocals by Sky Ferreira.  The two artists play well together, as do those intro horns, and i hope we can maybe get some further collaborations in the future.  Listen to it below.

Sky Ferreira

This has been out for a little while, but Sky Ferreira's "You're not the One" from her "Night Time, My Time" album has been stuck in my head for days.  I feel like a 13 year old girl dancing around my bedroom listening to it, and i'm not ashamed to admit that.  Get the album from Capital Records and watch the video below.

Sky Ferreira & Twin Shadow

In a lot of ways, Sky Ferreira represents most everything i hate about modern popular music.  She's a model/actress/performer/blah blah blah, a bubblegum princess manufactured for the masses to be consumed and spit back out like so much Britney Spears.  Seriously.  Just look at the vapid expression on her face.  That being said, i enjoyed her at SXSW in spite of myself, and despite her claims of illness (a ploy to cover her lack of a singing voice maybe?), the show was full of energy and fun.  "Everything Is Embarrassing" comes from her "Ghost" EP, a short collection of songs that sways between personal bedroom folk pop and all out dance tunes.  It kind of feels like throwing a bunch of different styles at the wall to see what sticks.  My money's on the dance tunes.  So, if you're in a head-bobbing mood and want a glimpse at what the kids are maybe into these days, check out Twin Shadow's remix of the aforementioned "Everything Is Embarrassing."  I like it better than the original.

And here's the original version for comparison.

SXSW day 2 pics

Another day of SXSW, another day of feeling like i'm too old for this shit.  An interesting line up today of decent bands, good bands, and bands who desperately want to be Maroon 5 (blegh!), but there were drinks to be had and some artists i've not heard before to discover.  Check out some pics below.
