Today is my Mom's birthday. Not that she'll read this blog or anything (we still kick it old school on the telephone), but she rocks. I love you, and i hope your birthday was great (even if it was spent in Oklahoma).

Shadows in Bloom
Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never and Joel Ford of Tigercity have combined forces again to release a new track under the Games moniker. "Shadows in Bloom" is a groovy, funky little piece of synth-magic, sounding totally vintage, but new at the same time. All their tracks are the tits, so seek them out. "That We Can Play" comes out in November. Listen to "Shadows in Bloom" below, and i dare you to not bob your head, even just a little.

Scorpion Violente
What happens when a couple of Euros named Toma Violente and Scott Scorpion (how can those not be their real names?) get together to make some music? They make awesome, raw minimal electro music that tears out your intestines like a zombie in a George Romero movie, that's what. Just look at the album cover above. How could it not be cool? You can get it here.

Duck Sauce
Duck Sauce is the DJ duo of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden. "Barbara Streisand" is their latest single. The EP comes out on October 12th from Fool's Gold. It's awesome. Dance! Dance! Dance!

Dream Cop remixed
Virginia's Dream Cop, a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in hazy, shoe-gazy, bedroom pop interwoven with samples will release his debut EP later next month on Tough Love Records. His tune, "Beach City/Carol I Know," a very Beach Boys-inspired jam, by way of Panda Bear just got the very danceable remix treatment from Teen Daze. I dare say it's better than the original. Listen and download here. Summer's over, but it's still hot, so just go with it.

Botany
Warm dreaminess emits forth from green fields and vast skies from Weatherford, Tx's Botany. Beautiful jams to lay around to. Thanks Western Vinyl. By the by, you can download the title track, "Feeling Today," at the site. Hooray!

No Joy
Shoegaze wunderkinds No Joy will be releasing their debut LP via Mexican Summer in November. If the 7" that came out over the summer is any indication, the new record will kick ass...albeit in an echo-ey way.

Nite Jewel
There's just something about a pretty female vocals under a barrage of synthesizers, electro noises, and acid house beats that makes me happy. The ladies have been doing it since the 70's, and i love them for it. Check out the latest EP from Nite Jewel, entitled "Am I Real?" from Gloriette Records. Get your fix here.

Brothers
Somehow, i've managed to go months without mentioning how awesome the "Brothers" LP by The Black Keys is. Shame on me. Anyway, the record is killer. Psychedelic garage blues stomp rock. Fuckin' A. These two just seem to get better and better with each subsequent album. Easily one of 2010's top 10. Go get it now...unless you don't like music...but, then why would you be reading this blog, as 90% of what i talk about has to do with music. Word.

Memories...
Just came across some blog talking about Guns N' Roses' most awesomest song ever. I loved "Estranged" back in my junior high days. Long, epic, and a bit bloated, but it's one of my favorite songs. The video was the shit too. As the final piece of the video trilogy, following "November Rain" and "Don't Cry," this was to be the most expansive/expensive. Axl jumps off an oil tanker and swims with dolphins while Slash walks on water and wails on his guitar. Ah, rock n' roll excess. I kind of miss it.

Foreign and Domestic
First off, you gotta love how a football game can have me ecstatic at first, then apprehensive, then completely fucking pissed off, and then ecstatic again. Way to go Texas.
All that aside, Paige and I tried the eats at Foreign and Domestic, and it was fantastic. The menu is odd. We had some crispy beef tongue for an appetizer, Paige had a pork steak with jellied olives and anchovies, i had the octopus and scallops with chorizo and such, and we topped it off with a chocolate bacon root beer float. Weird stuff, but very tasty. And the PBR's are only $2.50 a tall boy.
Excellent. And Hook 'Em!

Somebody Give Me An Endorsement Deal Pt. 3: Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale
First off, i love beer. I love all kinds of beer. It's the reason i'm chubby. But the creme de la creme, the president, the god, the king of all beers (fuck you Bud) is Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale. From September til Decemberish, this is all i drink. I'm literally drinking it as i type this. It's why i love the fall (ok, it's a tie with football). This is my nectar and ambrosia. I get to work and start day dreaming about the pumpkin ale in my fridge around noon. I'm serious. My body needs pumpkin ale more than it needs water. I'm gonna go have another one. You should too. It's still early.
Delorean's "Real Love" video
Here's the official video for Delorean's "Real Love." I love this song, and the video's full of European hipsters and dogs just hanging out and stuff, so my wife should like that (the dogs, not the European hipsters). Enjoy.

The Waves
The good folks over at Mexican Summer are releasing the debut LP from Tamaryn. The record follows a string of excellent singles and EP's, and the new album follows closely, weaving spaced-out atmospherics with pop folk melodies, and cranking up the reverb. Definitely a record for all the daydream believers and homecoming queens. This is shoegaze to make love to your old lady by.

Holy Other
Ready to end all this heat and sunshine and spend eternity in a smoky, blissed-out club with the ghosts of dead Germans? Berlin's Holy Other do. The "We Over/YR LOVE" 7" comes out later this month from Transparent. Get your absinthe ready.
Gnod Drop Out With White Hills II
Here. Take this. Don't ask what the side effects are. It does not matter. If you wake up in some stranger's bed, or in a gutter, or on a mattress left alone in a desert, you'll still be all the better for it. Mancunian weirdos Gnod team with New Yorkers White Hills to melt your face off, dragging you across a cosmic landscape, creating hypnotic, shamanic shenanigans meant for a different universe. The only way to escape (and who would really want to anyway?) is to take some power tools to your brain, and that's just messy.

Cat Alert
For all you kitty lovers out there (and that is in no way a sexual pun), Waskerley Way presents the new EP, "Cat Music." It's a smooth, groovy, little electro-jam session reminiscent of Washed Out, and with track titles like "Cat Alert" and "Nerd Cat," i think you can see where he's going with this. It's very good. Download the whole thing for free right here.

You're fucking out!
One of my favorite shows returns on September 26th. I've been pining for some new "Eastbound and Down" for a long while. The recent K-Swiss ads just aren't enough. So, here's a picture of Marilyn Manson dressed as Kenny Powers. It's a bit distressing i know, but i guess even has-been media whores like good comedy.
Here's one of the aforementioned K-Swiss commercials.

Las Robertas
With fuzzed-out, garage rock girl bands being all the rage for the last couple of years (see Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Vivian Girls, etc.), Art Fag Records will be releasing Costa Rican teenage girl rockers Las Robertas' LP, "Cry Out Loud" on October 12th. It's mixed by Jon Greene (Dum Dum Girls, Crocodiles, etc.), so my expectations are high. Bring on the girl rock.

A Horse Called Golgotha
Relapse Records present the latest in their 7" series from stoner metal aficionados Baroness. The record was produced by John Congleton (oh he of Paperchase glory), and the B-side is a cover of an old Descendents song. You'd be stupid not to own this.

Twin Shadow
Twin Shadow will release a split 7" with Violens on Terrible Records (who released an awesome split featuring CANT and Arthur Russell last year) later this month. "Savannah Howl" is the track, and it's a dubby, sultry, burning, 80's influenced jam for the end of a summer night. Also, check out Twin Shadow's debut LP, "Forget." Listen to "Savannah Howl" below.
Back and tired
And...we're back. Did a whole bunch of stereotypical New York stuff, ate some awesome food, walked and walked and walked, museums, drinks, a Colbert Report taping, a Beecher sighting (Lee Tergesen from "Oz"), more awesome food, and came to the conclusion that New Yorkers aren't as rude as they're made out to be.
Now it's back to the salt mines for me. Boo-urns.

Start spreading the news...
Hello fellow campers. I'll be heading out of town for a few days to take a gander at the Big Apple. I'm gonna go see the sights (the Empire State Building, the MOMA, the corner alley where Dee Dee Ramone blew a dude for some Chinese Rocks), take in the atmosphere (Jewish delis, Wall Street dickheads, tourists tourists tourists, Hurricane Earl), and hopefully come home with a few records. Counting down to Friday.
Tomorrow, i'll find some music for you.
