This melody is going to be in my head all day.

Adam O'Farrill
Still finding myself in a jazz groove this morning, so here's some wonderful new music from New York trumpeter and composer Adam O'Farrill. Listen to the melancholy, and damn near lamentful, "Bibo No Aozora" below and get the "Elephant" LP here from Out of Your Head Records.
Tomo Katsurada & Misha Panfilov
Here's a very cool collaboration between Japanese artist Tomo Katsurada and Estonian composer Misha Panfilov. The upcoming "Eternal Almost" is a flowing, grooving mix of jazz, psychedelic rock, funk, folk, and world sounds. Check out the excellent and cinematic "Mostra" below and pre-order the LP here from Future Days Radio.

Flea
I am not all that big on the Red Hot Chili Peppers (maybe a song or two here and there), but i have always recognized that Flea is one hell of an accomplished musician, be it the bass or the trumpet. And he's finally giving us a solo jazz outing with the release of "Honora" tomorrow. Check out the Thom Yorke assisted "Traffic Lights" below and order the LP here from Nonesuch Records.
Tyshawn Sorey
I can feel my mood shift all over the place this morning, and i'm having a hard time finding the right kind of sounds to capture it. For now, we're going to go with some avant garde improvisational jazz from New York composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey. The artist's new album "Members...Don't!" is out in May on Pi Recordings. Listen to the excellent album opener "Abstrusions" below and pre-order the album here.
Worm School
I will admit that when i saw the band name Worm School earlier this week, my expectation of what they would sound like was in a completely different realm than what i got. The Manchester band makes airy dreampop and shoegaze that feels like floating on a cloud. New tune "Cradle" was recorded by Deary's Ben Easton and mastered by Slowdive's Simon Scott, so it's got quite the pedigree. Check it out below and download it here from Crafting Room Recordings.
Daily Jam - The Fairest of the Seasons
I really do love Nico. Here's a track from her solo debut, co-written by Jackson Browne. Listen to "The Fairest of the Seasons" below, our Daily Jam.

Bricknasty
One of the artists that i meant to check out during SXSW is Dublin's experimental R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul artist Bricknasty. Typically during the fest i try to see some stuff outside of my normal wheelhouse, but it was not to be this year with this particular artist. The timing just never worked. Anyway, digging into his "Blacks Law" album from last October, and it's a weird, sometimes glitchy, sometimes smooth and soulful affair. Check out a combination of all of that on "Bombs" below and download the album here from FAMM.

Horse Lords
Quirky Baltimore band Horse Lords are back in June with a new album of their weird, angular, and frenetic mix of math rock, post punk, and experimental sounds. Check out new track "Brain of the Firm" below and pre-order the upcoming "Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!" LP here from RVNG Intl.
Model/Actriz
Brooklyn's experimental industrial and electro-punk band Model/Actriz dropped a surprise EP a few days ago for our listening pleasure. Listen to the twitchy "Glassman" below and download the "Swan Songs" EP here from True Panther. And, if you get a chance to catch the band live, do so. They are a great live act.
Laurel Halo
LA experimental electronic artist Laurel Halo is providing the score to visual artist Julian Charriere's new film "Midnight Zone." The movie follows the path of a Fresnel lighthouse lens descending through the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone, a remote stretch of the Pacific Ocean. For the score, Halo creates a fittingly sparse and abyssal drone, like falling in slow motion into the unknown. Check out the album opening "Sunlight Zone" below and grab the LP here from Awe.
Daily Jam - Nem Érdekel, Amit Mondsz
Looking back on it, that Andy Votel curated "Prog Is Not a Four Letter Word" compilation is probably one of my favorite CD's i've ever purchased. It opened me up to so much killer music from all over the world, like Hungarian prog band Illes. Check out "Nem Érdekel, Amit Mondsz" belowk, our Daily Jam, and groove on that opening beat and riff.

sadplanet
Here's a beautiful and melancholy new shoegaze jam from London's sadplanet. Listen to "Do You?" below and download it here from the band.
Noir Boy George
I can often be a total sucker for French pop, and French artist Noir Boy George brings the pop with the upcoming "POLYTOXICOMANE DE TOI" EP, throwing in elements of electronic pop, no wave punk, and more to quirky, delirious delight. Check out "Injecte-moi" below and pre-order the record here from Pan European Recordings.
Tacoma Park
Here's a new track from North Carolina based experimental duo Tacoma Park. I hear a lot of different things on "Untied," a mix of ambient country music, Americana, new age, krautrock, and a little bit of kosmische psychedelia. It's cool and floaty. Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming "Baltimore" LP here from Centripetal Force.
Lice
Lice is the hip-hop duo of Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman, and they just dropped new album "Miami Lice: Season 4" earlier this month. We stan Aesop Rock around these parts, so any project he's involved with or pops up on gets ample play here. Dig on "Burnt Mauve" below and download the album here or pick up the vinyl here from Rhymesayers.
Léonie Pernet
Here's some dreamy, cinematic, kinda tribal new electro-pop from French artist Léonie Pernet. Check out "Contre Terre" below and download the single, along with an instrumental version, here from InFine.
Some Velvet Sidewalk
This June brings about the triumphant return of '90s indie rock band Some Velvet Sidewalk. "Critters Encore" is the first new material from the band since 1997. Check out the noisy, brooding, old school "Don't Fuck with Your Luck" below and pre-order the LP here from Perennialdeath.
Daily Jam - Motivation
One of my high school favorites, Dallas's Tripping Daisy, are set to hit Austin in May, performing 1995's "I Am an Elastic Firecracker" in full. I think i may have to attend. I've seen The Polyphonic Spree a ton of times, but i never caught the core when they were Daisy back in the day. Check out "Motivation" below, our Daily Jam.

Damien Jurado
Long time indie rock artist Damien Jurado has had a prolific streak for pretty much his entire career. It's difficult for me to keep track of it all, especially since he has a penchant for going back to older material and re-recording variant versions of it all. So i never know if something is brand new or just a new take on old material. Whichever the just released "All Are Welcome In: A Return to Maraqopa" is, it's wonderful. Listen to the airy, soothing, album opening "Everyone a Star (Redux)" below and download the album here.
Office Dog
From Auckland, New Zealand comes the classic indie and alternative rock sounds of Office Dog. The band dropped new track "Front Row Seat" a few days ago via Flying Nun Records. Check it out below and download it here.
Mythical Motors
Here's a perfect mix of lo-fi alt-rock, jangle, and power pop from Chattanooga, Tennessee's Mythical Motors. Check out the short and sweet "Dismantled Man Tells You" below and pre-order the band's upcoming "Tremolo on the Punch Line" LP here.

Daily Jam - Melted Rope
I've been digging on LA band Wand for over a decade now, a slew of excellent releases over these last 10+ years, but i always find myself going back to my entry point, 2015's "Golem" LP. A mix of garage rock, psychedelia, and stoner rock, it's a total treat. Check out the spacey "Melted Rope" below, our Daily Jam.

Mystery Groop
Mystery Groop is a psychedelic super group featuring members of Hooveriii, Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, Groop, and Mystery Egg, basically a collision of sonic freaks from LA and Austin. Their "Glorify the Bomb" EP is out next month. Pre-order the cassette (while it lasts) here from Greenway Records and listen to the noisy, brain-melting "Fists" below.
Swapmeet
Here's some new indie/alt-rock from Australian band Swapmeet, who apparently made a big splash here in Austin last week during SXSW. Check out new tune "I Know!" below and download it here from Winspear.

ÖLÜM
Here's a new banger from LA band ÖLÜM. The group makes trippy Turkish psych and Anatolian rock, but you know, here in the states. Groove on new tune "Kara Dünya" below and download it here from the band.
The Lemon Twigs
The Lemon Twigs are back with their throwback, sing-song psych pop in May. Listen to the sweet and lovely "I Just Can't Get Over Losing You" below and pre-order the upcoming "Look for Your Mind!" LP here from Captured Tracks.
Simon Hanes
Several years ago at SXSW, i caught New York band Tredici Bacci, a wild and eclectic band that played psych and pop to craft a kind of avant garde faux soundtrack to a series of '60 Italian films that never existed. It was truly unique stuff. Well, now front man Simon Hanes is set to release his new solo effort "Gargantua" next week, and it sounds like nothing else as well, like an experimental opera made for art school devils and demonic theater kids. Check out "Hekla 1970" below and pre-order the album here from Pyroclastic Records.
The MerKaBa Brotherhood
And now for some spacey and experimental devotional jazz from The MerKaBa Brotherhood. The group's self-titled album is out in May on Mississippi Records. Pre-order the LP here and listen to the clang and bells of "Galgalim" below.
Daily Jam - Dedicated to the One I Love
Just got back from a Renaissance Festival and am now settling in for some college basketball. But first, some music from The Mamas & The Papas. Listen to "Dedicated to the One I Love" below, our Daily Jam.

Lorelle Meets the Obsolete
Mexico's Lorelle Meets the Obsolete are releasing their new "Corporeal" EP in May, a companion piece to last year's "Corporal" LP. Check out new the dark and brooding new tune "Progreso" below and pre-order the record here from Sonic Cathedral.
Ed O'Brien
Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien is set to release his new solo album "Blue Morpho" in May. I'm beginning to think that he's quietly been the coolest member of that band all along now. Check out the lush and beautiful, string-laden title track below and pre-order the LP here from Transgressive.
Hannah Sandoz
Here's some strange and ghostly lo-fi folk from Chicago artist Hannah Sandoz taken from last year's "MF / HS" split EP with Mirror Fish. Float away in the eerie and ethereal hiss of "All of God" below and get the cassette here from Snart Snart Records.
Pons
One of the bands i was fortunate enough to see earlier this wee was Brooklyn duo Pons, who i have to say brought a shitload of energy to a 1PM set. The band make a mix of no wave punk and noise rock and last September's frenetic "Heavens to Peter" cassette is definitely worth a listen. Check out "Boy's Surface" below and snag the tape here from the band.
Daily Jam - Tango Till They're Sore
It's Friday and the world's falling apart. Here's one of my favorite songs of all time to maybe turn the tide for a few moments. "Tango Till They're Sore" by Tom Waits sounds like the lament of the most down-on-his-luck loser, drowning himself cheap booze, and stumbling aimlessly around New Orleans (the city of my birth) hoping to find just one set of ears that cares. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Widowspeak
To be honest, i don't think i even knew that Widowspeak were still around, but here's the New York indie pop duo heading our way with a new album in June. Check out the lovely jangle pop of new tune "If You Change" below and pre-order the "Roses" LP here from Captured Tracks.
Natalie Wildgoose
On the upcoming "Rural Hours," London artist Natalie Wildgoose makes timeless, haunting, wistful spectral folk, the pitch perfect kind of music that feels like it's always just been there with us. Listen to the sublime "Nobody on the Path" below and pre-order the EP here from state51.
The Mellons
Here's a wonderful new psych pop gem from Salt Lake City band The Mellons. Check out the bubblegum melancholia of "Black & White" below and download it here from Earth Libraries.
The Violet Mindfield
SoCal quintet The Violet Mindfield play old school garage rock that would fit right in with one of those "Nuggets" compilations without missing a beat. Check out "Slain in the Spirit" below and snag a copy of the "From the Gutter with Love" 7" here from the band.
Liz Cooper
Vermont's Liz Cooper makes cool alternative rock that nods back to grunge, post punk, trip-hop, space rock, and more. I wouldn't call it throwback rock necessarily, but she certainly wears her influences on her sleeve. Check out the wonderful ballad "Loss of Signal" below and download the artist's new "New Day" album, featuring some positively charming cover art, here. You can also pre-order the physical release here from the artist.
Labels:
alt-rock,

Hot Garbage
Here's some noisy post punk from another artist i missed out on at this year's SXSW, Toronto's Hot Garbage. Dig on the spastic cacophony of "Wewu" below and download the track here from Mothland.
Johnny Falloon
I don't know too much about Athens, Georgia based band Johnny Falloon except that i missed them during SXSW, and that last week they dropped this absolutely killer no wave noise rock jam. Listen to "Bob Dylan's 116th Dream" below and download it here.
Matthew Geary
And now it's time for some droney folk and Americana from Philadelphia based guitarist Matthew Geary. Dig on the old world, hypnotic sounds of "Relentless Intrusion" below and get the new "Owl's Lament" cassette here from Scissor Tail Records.
Blackbraid
Indigenous black metal artist Blackbraid dropped a new EP earlier this month of tunes recorded during the sessions for last year's "Blackbraid III" LP. There's a raw and earthy feel to the artist's particular brand of black metal that feels like it's channeling the ancient gods and the wilderness. Grab the "Nocturnal Womb" EP here from Wolf Mountain Productions and listen to the stellar, guttural title track below.
Daily Jam - Slaves and Bulldozers
Here's a track from Soundgarden's breakout album "Badmotorfinger" to start your Thursday to. Listen to "Slaves and Bulldozers" below, our Daily Jam.

Kim Gordon
I will forever be enthralled by the sounds of Sonic Youth and all of the spinoff projects associated with the now defunct and legendary band. One of the latest is the new solo effort from Kim Gordon. There is something about her cool and detached monotone delivery that has always grabbed hold of my shoulders and screamed directly into my psyche. Grab the "Play Me" LP here from Matador and listen to "Not Today" below.
