Marina Zispin
It feels like it's time for a little ethereal synth pop this morning, and UK duo Marina Zispin have got the goods. The band released their debut EP, "Life and Death: The Five Chandeliers of the Funereal Exorcisms," back in September. Get it here from Night School Records and listen to the floating electro-cathedral sounds of "Hymn" below.
Daily Jam - The Certainty of Chance
Here's some dramatic, cinematic music from The Divine Comedy from what is a gray and misty morning here in Central Texas. Listen to "The Certainty of Chance" below, our Daily Jam.

Harp
It's been a spell since i last thought about Denton, Texas band Midlake and their catchy, mellow mix of'70s folk and soft rock. Former member Tim Smith has a new album coming out next month with his latest project Harp, the duo of himself and wife Kathi Zung. The pair's upcoming "Albion" LP is a wistful and moody mix of folk and '80s synth pop that reminds me a little of the kind of stuff that Indiana band Odawas was making 15 years ago. Beautiful stuff. Check out "I Am the Seed" below and pre-order the LP here from Bella Union.

Sven Wunder
Swedish composer Sven Wunder is back at it again, this time with the aid of the Madlib Invazion Library Series, a project created by Madlib and Egon to let their friends and other artists create whatever they want for use in film and television and future sampling. "Ultramarine" is a lush and beautiful piece, a cinematic soundtrack for two lovers, but check out the funky B-side, "Terracotta," below, and then get the "Ultramarine" 7" here from Piano Piano.
Daily Jam - At Dawn
My brain is just not there today. It wasn't there yesterday either. Maybe a week off was not good for me. Anyway, let's listen to some My Morning Jacket this morning to lull me back to reality. Here's "At Dawn," our Daily Jam.

Zetra
It's been a year since we last heard from UK duo Zetra, but they're back with new single "Sacrifice." The track takes on more of a gothic metal aesthetic than the lo-fi, black metal-tinged darkwave i've grown accustomed to over the last few years, but still fits right in with the band's collective sound. Check it out below and download it here from Nuclear Blast.

Keep Shelly in Athens
Here's a great new dreampop track from Greek duo Keep Shelly in Athens. "Lonely Times" is described as sounding like something that came out on 4AD during their '80s heyday, and that is 100% correct. Check it out below and download it here from Athenian Aura Recordings.
Daily Jam - Requiem for Dying Mothers (Part 1)
I was very saddened about the news of Brian McBride's passing earlier this year. His ambient project with Adam Wiltzie, Stars of the Lid, was one of the bands that totally opened my eyes to how expansive the Austin music scene was and could be when i arrived in the late '90s. Here's the opening track from what i believe to be their magnum opus, "The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid." Listen to "Requiem for Dying Mothers (Part 1)" below, our Daily Jam.

Clouds Taste Satanic
I think it's probably pretty safe to say that the only Christmas song from the last 30 years to actually enter the cultural lexicon and stay there is Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You." As i just got all the Christmas decorations up over the weekend, here's Clouds Taste Satanic giving us a metal rendition. Check it out below and get the new "All I Want for Christmas Is Your Soul" EP here from the band.
Daily Jam - Coward
Here's a somber and haunting track from Vic Chesnutt released the same year as his death. Listen to "Coward" below, our Daily Jam.

Haunted House Party
The last couple Octobers have been wonderfully soundtracked by the dusty, spooky samples and beats of Haunted House Party. And now the artist has taken that aesthetic and applied it to the Christmas holiday season. Check out "Comfort and Joy" below and get "The Spirits of Christmas" LP here from Strange Daisy.
Daily Jam - Pink Bat
Let's make some noise today with the Melvins and Lustmord. From the 2004 collaborative album "Pigs of the Roman Empire," here's "Pink Bat," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Another Body Murdered
I've got a lot going on today, but i've got to imagine i'll attempt to make out to a record store to check out their Black Friday releases, and i also imagine that if able, i'll be coming home with the Record Store Day reissue of the "Judgement Night" soundtrack. Listen to Faith No More and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. and "Another Body Murdered" below, our Daily Jam.

Whispering Sons
I've got to make a turkey, etc. today, but in the meantime, i'm going to watch some parades and football games, eat some meats and cheeses, and listen to Belgium's avant garde band Whispering Sons. New album "The Great Calm" is out next year. Pre-order it here and listen to "Cold City" below.
Daily Jam - X Gon' Give It to Ya
Nothing says Thanksgiving like a track from the late DMX. Here's "X Gon' Give It to Ya," our Daily Jam. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Just Mustard Remixed by Space Afrika
Irish band Just Mustard released one of my favorite albums last year with "Heart Under," and now one of that record's highlights, "I Am You," gets the remix treatment from Space Afrika, turning the post punk jam into an ethereal trip-hop kinda thing. Check it out below and download it here from Partisan Records.
Daily Jam - Cowboys
I hold on to the hope that one day we'll get a fourth Portishead album. If we're lucky. Here's a track from their second album. Listen to "Cowboys" below, our Daily Jam.

body / negative
My wife took the boys and their friends over to the Lego store and for the moment, my house is quiet. It's just me and the dog, and the gently sounds of LA artist Andy Schiaffino and their project body / negative. New album "everett" is out next month and features production from Midwife and mastering from Slowdive's Simon Scott. Pre-order the album here from Track Number Records and listen to the ambient piano tones of "Sleepy" below.
Daily Jam - Early in the Morning
The 1974 album "III" by proggy German band Jane is one of those records i picked up in the past based solely on the cover art. I kind of had the perfect idea about what the music therein would sound like, and it turns out i was correct. So here's a little krautrock for your Tuesday. Listen to "Early in the Morning" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Girlfriend
I heard Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" the other day on the radio, and it made me think of the animated video...which made me wonder where exactly that animation came from. Turns out it's from a 1982 film called "Space Adventure Cobra." Thanks internet. Anyway, check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Shout at The Devil '97
I have the whole next week off from work and need to relax a little bit...which is something i often have a hard time with. So what better way to start than with a band reworking one of their own classics. Here's Motley Crue with "Shout at The Devil '97," our Daily Jam.

J Mascis
Dinosaur Jr (as well as a half dozen other projects) main man J Mascis has a new solo album coming our way in February with "What Do We Do Now." Listening to first single "Can't Believe We're Here," it feels like a concentrated version of that Mascis sound. Check it out below and pre-order the record here from Sub Pop.
Daily Jam - The Henge / Ascension
It's Friday, and we all probably have shit we need to get done, but let's listen to some proggy synths from Steve Moore while we do it. Check out "The Henge / Ascension" below, our Daily Jam.

The Body & Dis Fig
Experimental metal band The Body have been pushing their sound into new and different directions pretty much since their inception, with forays into industrial, folk, noise, and more, either on their own with a plethora of collaborators. On upcoming new album "Orchards of a Futile Heaven," the duo find themselves working with dark electronic artist Dis Fig, and together make some dense, world-ending music. Check out "Holy Lance" below and pre-order the album, out in February, here from Thrill Jockey.
Daily Jam - Just What I Needed
Still one of my favorite albums from high school, the self-titled lone album from Replicants. Featuring members of Failure, Lusk, and Tool, the band plays covers of everyone from David Bowie to Missing Persons to Steely Dan. Here's their version of The Cars' "Just What I Needed," our Daily Jam.

Folklore Tapes
UK label Folklore Tapes managed to get under my skin and stay there yesterday while i listened through some of their discography. The label compiles songs and projects from artists dabbling in folk, psych, experimental synth, noise, and more. Here's how they describe themselves:
Folklore Tapes is an ongoing research and musical heritage project covering and soundtracking the folklore, mythology and occult annals of the UK in volumes of tapes and vinyl. Exploring mysteries, myths, nature, topography and strange phenomena of the counties.
Pretty rad right? Anyway, one of the projects released this year is the compilation "When the Frog from the Well Sees the Ocean (Reports from English UFOlklore)," which is as weird and wonderful as i could have hoped, sounding like something Trish Keenan of Broadcast would have turned me on to. Get the LP here and in the meantime, listen to Arianne Churchman's "The Luminous" below.
Silver Apples & Makoto Kawabata
Before his death in 2020, Simeon Coxe (aka Silver Apples) was working on collaborative material with Acid Mothers Temple's Makoto Kawabata. That work is finally seeing the light with the release of "Mirage," a 4-song LP of weird sonic explorations. Check out the strange and bubbling "Future Reminiscence" below and get the album here from Imprec.
Daily Jam - Tiger
Austin's dark and gothy Troller released their third album earlier this year. Here's a track from their first. Listen to "Tiger" below, our Daily Jam.

Amiture
Brooklyn duo Amiture make a cool mix of electro-tinged alt-rock, dance, and blues that harkens back to a lot of stuff i was listening to 25 years ago. It's like they made it just for me. Anyway, new album "Mother Engine" is out in February. Pre-order it here from Dots Per Inch Music and check out the video for the very hip "Billy's Dream" below.
Daily Jam - Supervixen
I never had Garbage's debut CD back when i was in high school, but it seems like all my girlfriends did. Anyway, here's Garbage with "Supervixen," our Daily Jam.

The Smile
When they dropped new single "Bending Hectic" a few months back, it seemed evident that a new album from The Smile would find its way to us sooner than later, and now we've got a date. "Wall of Eyes" hits in January. Pre-order it here from XL Recordings and listen to the eerie and melancholy title track below.
Daily Jam - Little 15
I finally got to see Depeche Mode live a few weeks back, something that really should have happened years and years ago, but something i was super stoked for nonetheless. It ruled. Anyway, here they are with "Little 15," our Daily Jam.

The Killer
While we're listening to Nine Inch Nails this morning, we might as well throw on the new score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for David Fincher's "The Killer." There are certain director/composer combos that just work like magic, and the pairing of Fincher with Reznor and Ross is definitely one of them. Check out the tense and moody "Fuck." below and download the whole soundtrack here from The Null Corporation.

Daily Jam - Games Without Frontiers
I worked in an office for a furniture store for a long time, and was inundated with whatever pre-programmed music that was played in the store day after day. Every once in a while they'd have a winner in the mix though, and one of those was "Games Without Frontiers" by Peter Gabriel. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

James Jonathan Clancy
Here's some new music from Maple Death Records founder James Jonathan Clancy. We posted music from the man before under his moniker His Clancyness, but new album "Sprecato" finds the artist making new noise under his birth name. Check out the psych-tinged "Had It All" below and pre-order the album here.
Daily Jam - Bonita Applebum
I did not appreciate A Tribe Called Quest nearly enough back in their heyday. Making amends. Here's "Bonita Applebum" from the group's 1990 debut. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Wurld Series
New Zealand band Wurld Series channels the sounds and vibes of UK psych folk through their own quirky, alt-rock meat grinder, and the result is something both trippy and transcendent. Check out "Alive with Flies" below and pre-order the band's upcoming "The Giant's Lawn" LP here from Meritorio Records.
Daily Jam - Wait Until Dark
I could listen to Scott Walker's arrangements all day long. So here's one. Check out his version of Henry Mancini's theme from "Wait Until Dark" below, our Daily Jam.

Infant Island
Fredericksburg, Virginia screamo band Infant Island are back next year with new album "Obsidian Wreath." The band's mix of emo, hardcore punk, black metal, post rock, and shoegaze is often just what the doctor ordered around these parts. Check out "Another Cycle" below and pre-order the new LP here from Secret Voice.
