Daily Jam - In the Year 2525
Zager & Evans were probably on to something with their 1969 tune "In the Year 2525," a psych-tinged pop song about man's inevitable and self-inflicted decline. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
Divide and Dissolve
Australian Experimental drone metal duo Divide and Dissolve just released their latest album "Gas Lit," a collection of tracks both eerie and seething. Album opener "Oblique" captures this sonic template perfectly, a haunting mix of orchestral instruments slowly moving and floating us to a cacophony of angry, wailing noise. Sounds of the times. Check it out below and pre-order the vinyl from the band here on Invada.

Daily Jam - Sour Times
It's gray today and perfectly suited for the dour sounds of Portishead. Dig on those spy movie music vibes and listen to "Sour Times" below, our Daily Jam.
Blood Cultures
Brooklyn avant garde electro-pop act Blood Cultures are prepping a new album for sometime later this year and just dropped the first single with the grooving and moody "Keeps Bringing Me Back." Check the single out below and get it here.

Daily Jam - Velvet
I remember how much i was into the song "Velvet" by The Big Pink back when it came out, and it's really hard to grapple with the reality that that was well over 10 years ago. Christ. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Chelsea Wolfe & Emma Ruth Rundle
It was a nice surprise this morning to wake up to a new song from two of my favorite dark chanteuses, Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle. Check out the devastating new single "Anhedonia" below and get it here from Sargent House.
Chuck Johnson
Oakland's Chuck Johnson plays the pedal steel and pushes the instrument into far out, cosmic regions that feel like touching the sky. It's like watching the stars and the sheer immensity of space in the desert. Check out "Raz-de-Maree" below and pre-order the upcoming new album "The Cinder Grove" here via VDSQ.
Squid
Way, way back in the spring of 2019, i caught a very frenetic and wild live set from UK post punk band Squid at SXSW. They were one of the many highlights for me that year, and i've been waiting for a proper debut full-length ever since. It looks like that's finally going to happen in May. After a string of weird and wonderful singles and EPs, the band is back with the upcoming "Bright Green Field" LP. Check out new tune "Narrator" featuring Martha Skye Murphy below and pre-order the record here via Warp.
Xiu Xiu and Liz Harris
The boundary pushing, experimental, avant garde pop group Xiu Xiu are gracing us with a new record in March, this time around as a duets album featuring a whole slew of other great artists. Highlights include Angus Andrew of Liars, Chelsea Wolfe, Sharon Van Etten, and Owen Pallett among others. Grouper's Liz Harris is also featured on the new record on the single "A Bottle of Rum." Check that one out below and pre-order the "OH NO" LP here via Polyvinyl. And i'm just dying to hear the cover of The Cure's "One Hundred Years."
Amulets
So i'm no follower of Wall Street. It bores me to death, and attracts a certain kind of bro i want nothing to do with. But watching this Reddit and Gamestop stuff has been fascinating, illuminating, and very, very funny. It also shows just how ridiculous and rigged the whole system has been for so long. If you're unfamiliar, look it up and have a good laugh at the expense of the billionaire hedge fund bros. Anyway, here's a new and eerily soothing ambient jam from Portland artist Amulets. Check out "Heaviest Wait" below and pre-order the upcoming "Blooming" LP here via The Flenser.
Daily Jam - Everything That Rises
I've gone in and out of phases where i like Moby, the most recent one being a few years back when "Innocents" came out. Dig on the synthy, cinematic moodiness of "Everything That Rises," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Legs
As i've spent the majority of my life living in Texas, an appreciation for ZZ Top is pretty much ingrained within me and ordained by some higher power. And "Legs" is the first song by the trio that i can vividly remember hearing first, obviously through MTV. And it still bumps. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
Dream Division
Okay, why am i just now finding out about Dream Division? The UK artist makes horror score inspired music that pulls from everyone from Frizzi to Carpenter to Goblin to Bernstein and everything in between. They also do real film score work as well and released three albums last year, the most recent one dropping last month. And they're all sold out now. So seriously, why am i just now finding out about Dream Division? Anyway, going through the catalog here, and you just can't miss with anything. Check out "Illusion" from last October's "Beyond the Mirror's Image" LP, download it here, or if you're so inclined, head over here to Mondo as it looks like they still have a few in stock.
Mica Levi
Experimental pop artist Mica Levi just dropped her second surprise solo album in as many months with the just released "Blue Alibi." And while the lo-fi scratches and meditations therein are maybe not has catching as the collection of songs on last month's "Ruff Dog," i'm really feeling "Liquorice" featuring Relax Kevin. Check it out below and download both albums here.
Boyhood
Here's a cool and mopey new jam from Canadian artist Boyhood. "Don't You Dare" feels equal parts pop lounge act and bedroom lament. Check it out below and get it here.

Moa - Under Your Skin
Netflix currently has a 4-part docuseries on about '80s serial killer Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker. It's pretty solid and worth checking out, and apparently the producers of "Night Stalker" originally wanted to use folk artist Vashti Bunyan's "I'd Like to Walk Around in Your Mind" to score a scene in the series. Understandably, the artist did not want her song to be associated with with that kind of notoriety, so North Carolina band Moa stepped in to record a new track instead. That track is the haunting dark folk of "Under Your Skin." Check out the song below and get it here from the band.

Daily Jam - Soldier Girl (Death in Vegas Mix)
Back in college, i was fortunate enough to catch one of the very first Polyphonic Spree performances when they opened up for Grandaddy in Austin. I've been a devoted, not quite robe-wearing fan ever since. Here they are in remix form. Check out the Death in Vegas mix of "Soldier Girl" below, our Daily Jam.

Grey Frequency
A couple years back, UK ambient artist Grey Frequency released an excellent album about UFOs and abduction. It was an eerie collection of sounds that the artist has now followed up with a new record of mysterious inspirations. This time around the focus is on ghosts, hauntings, and the paranormal. Coincidentally enough, it's been dubbed "Paranormal." Check out the spooky ""Manifestation" below and get the cassette here.
Daily Jam - Speedway
Let's start the week off with some French progressive analog synth music, that's what i always say. Here's "Speedway" from Space Art's 1977 album "Trip in the Center Head," our Daily Jam.

Thee Sacred Souls
It's been a day of house cleaning and such, and now it's time to sit back and relax. And the cool and soulful sounds of San Diego trio Thee Sacred Souls seems like the right way to do it. Check out "Will I See You Again?" below and order the 7" here via Daptone imprint Penrose Records.
Here Lies Man
And we've got a new album from LA psych rock band Here Lies Man to punch into our ears. On "Ritual Divination," the band find themselves upping the stoner metal vibes in their sonic tapestry to smoky, mind-melting effect. Check out the album opening "In These Dreams" below and go down the rabbit hole. Then order the record here from RidingEasy Records.
Altin Gün
Next month brings us a new album from Dutch band Altin Gün. The group continues on with their fun and intoxicating mix of Anatolian rock and Turkish psychedelia, this time around with some new wavey synths and disco funk thrown in for good measure. Check out "Yüce Dağ Başında" and pre-order the "Yol" LP here from ATO.
Carmen Villain
Norwegian-Mexican artist and producer Carmen Villain just released a new album, this time around as part of Geographic North's "Sketch for Winter" series. This ninth volume, dubbed "Perlita" by the artist, is a soothing and beautiful sonic vista of ambient bliss. Check out the album opening "Everything Without Shadow" below and order the cassette here.
Geneva Jacuzzi
Have you ever found yourself wanting to be transported to some kind of hazy '80s nightclub, the kind that only exists in movies or VHS daydream memories? Yes? No? Either way, LA artist Geneva Jacuzzi has got you covered for the soundtrack therein. New tune "Love Caboose" is a straight injection of vapor wave and synthy R&B that will have you seeing neon. Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "Lamaze" LP here from Mexican Summer.
STOMP TALK MODSTONE
I know it's only January, but i think i may have found my first real contender for my album of the year with the latest release from Japanese shoegaze band STOMP TALK MODSTONE. "Linger in Someone's Memory with a Lurid Glow" is as gorgeous as it is sweeping, an absolutely massive piece of layered sound and reverb that echoes far into space and time. Check out "Linger" below and order the cassette here from Gezellig Records.
The Mall
Last year, St. Louis band The Mall put out their album "Zone" via a couple of small run, instantly sold-out cassette releases. But next month, the album will see its first vinyl release via Fixed Grin Records. It owns too, so get on that before it sells out as well. Lo-fi darkwave with shouted punk vocals buried in the mix. Check out "Habit" below and get the album here.
Daily Jam - All Wasted
If i've said it before, i've said it a thousand times. It's always a good time for Jay Reatard. Here's "All Wasted," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Independence Day
Getting Friday morning started with some post-punk/new wave from The Comsat Angels. Here's "Independence Day," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - I Hear a Rhapsody
We're going to calm our nerves and center ourselves with some soothing jazz from pianist Bill Evans and guitarist Jim Hall today because it's nice. And because the album art from 1962's "Undercurrent" is one of my very favorites. Listen to "I Hear a Rhapsody" below, our Daily Jam.
CHAI
May is looking to bring us a new album from Japanese pop rock band CHAI. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform at SXSW back in 2019 and they were absolutely delightful. New track "ACTION" finds the ladies in more of a synthy electro-funk groove than songs past but still maintains that twee energy. Check it out below and order the upcoming "WINK" LP here from Sub Pop.
Tomahawk
Good news everyone! It looks like we're getting a new record from Tomahawk in March. Here's hoping we continue to get a new album from a Mike Patton supergroup every few months from now on. Where you at Fantomas? Anyway, check out "Business Casual" below and pre-order "Tonic Immobility" here from Ipecac.

Daily Jam - King Midas in Reverse
I was looking for something to possibly play dipshit off into the sun with, but nothing really felt right. Also, i'd be lying if i said i was stoked about a Biden presidency. The way is see it, things are marginally better for a handful of people now, and if that doesn't increase drastically, we're in for a long downfall. Anyway, here's The Hollies. Listen to "King Midas in Reverse" below, our Daily Jam, and may Trump never pop up into my feed ever again.
Small Black
Brooklyn's purveyors of dreamy synth pop and chillwave Small Black are back in April with a brand new album called "Cheap Dreams." Listen to the '80s drenched "Duplex" below and pre-order the record here from 100% Electronica.
Writhing Squares
In March, Trouble in Mind Records is gracing us with the latest from Philly psychedelic, prog rock duo Writhing Squares. Blending aspects of said psych and prog with punk rock, krautrock, and synthesizer explorations, the duo are here to melt your brain. Check out "Rogue Moon" below and pre-order the upcoming "Chart for the Solution" LP here.
Nightshift
Chicago label Trouble in Mind has no lack of great artists in its repertoire, and the next couple of months will see the release new records from at least two of these wonderful bands. The first drops in February from Glasgow act Nightshift. The "Zöe" LP is a brooding mix of post punk and no wave that feels like an intoxicated, off-kilter walk into the city night. Check out "Make Kin" below, a thumping groove with a clarinet that slinks its way around like a hunting shark, and pre-order the record here.
Art d'Ecco
Canadian artist Art d'Ecco released what was maybe my favorite song last year with "I'll Never Give You Up," and now we're getting our first taste of the upcoming new album "In Standard Definition." New single "TV God" isn't a synth pop banger like last year's single but rather finds the artist traversing the sounds of glam rock and disco to hip shaking results. Check it out below, grab the single here via Paper Bag Records, and be on the lookout for the LP in April.
Tuesday, January 19, 2021
Luis Vasquez
Luis Vasquez drops his Soft Moon moniker for a new record of video game inspired droney, synthy, gothy, industrial post punk. Check out the album opening "Interno" below and order the upcoming "A Body of Errors" LP here from the artist.

Futurafter
Here's a little bedroom shoegaze pop from Futurafter to float us through our Monday. "Tears of Love" has kind of a '90s vibe to it. Check it out below and get the band's "Ep A" EP here via Shore Dive Records.
Daily Jam - Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody
Yeah, we're doing this one today. So here's "Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" from David Lee Roth, our Daily Jam.

Nation of Language
Brooklyn band Nation of Language released and album of cold synth pop back in May last year that completely flew under my radar. I don't know. I guess there was a lot going on at the time. Anyway, it's got great '80s throwback energy in all the best ways. And now it seems that the band has a new 7" coming out featuring a couple of new tunes. Listen to "Deliver Me From Wondering Why" below and pre-order the record here. Go ahead and grab their other stuff there too while you're at it.
