Hurt Valley
Here's a little lo-fi folk pop from LA band Hurt Valley. "Geology Dreamer" has a kind of end of the road feel to it, our story concluding. Check it out below and get the "Glacial Pace" LP here from Woodsist.
Daily Jam - Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
There was a time when the Deftones were maybe my favorite band. That time has passed, but i still dig on those first 3 records a lot. Anyway, here's "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)," our Daily Jam.

Doon Kanda
Jesse Kanda is a music and visual artist probably best know for his surreal album art for people like Björk and FKA Twigs. But he also makes dramatic, gothic electronic music as Doon Kanda. Check out the cinematic ballroom sounds of "Polycephaly" below and pre-order the upcoming "Labyrinth" LP here from Hyperdub.

Bill Callahan covers Leonard Cohen
Bill Callahan just released a couple of lovely covers for our listening pleasure, Lee Clayton's "If You Could Ever Touch Her," and Leonard Cohen's "So Long, Marianne." I'm a total Stan for Cohen, so i always enjoy different artists' interpretations of his work. Check out Callahan's alt-country leaning, Americana take on the classic song below, and then get both songs here via Drag City.

Daily Jam - These Days
After a couple of days of sun, it's super overcast and gloomy today, so i guess that calls for a little Joy Division. Listen to "These Days" below, our Daily Jam.
Pearly - The Big Laugh & TooBad2
A month or so back, i wrote a couple of different posts about a band called Pearly, and i attributed both songs to the same act. Unbeknownst to me, there are actually two different bands called Pearly. Both are boy/girl duos. Both wade the waters of dreampop. And both are really great. But it turns out one is from Cleveland and the other from Berlin. Today, we're focusing on Cleveland. The duo just released a video for two of their tracks, "The Big Laugh" and "TooBad2," dreamy, synth-laden jams for our Tuesday. Check it all out below and get their "prettydarksexymusic" EP here.

Osees
OCS or Thee Oh Sees or Oh Sees, or now Osees, regardless of the moniker, John Dwyer's long running psych rock outfit is going to churn out something groove or rattle your ear drums. The artist's latest release, the upcoming "Synth" 12" consists of a 40-minute instrumental synthesizer exploration divided into two parts, "Infinite Columns" and "Regards to the Monolith." Check out the weirdness below and pre-order here.

Daily Jam - The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
I honestly have no idea who i would be if i hadn't had Weird Al in my life as a kid. Probably somewhere boring and hating myself. Anyway, here's "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota," a song i've found myself singing every other day for the last 30 years. Our Daily Jam.

Deserta
I was up early this morning to drive my mom to the airport, dark and little chilly outside with the sun slowly rising to my right while driving back home, hardly another vehicle on the road at all, quiet and still and dreamy echos of sound on my mind. Been on the reverbier side of things so far today, and just came across the upcoming "Black Aura My Sun" LP from LA artist Deserta that will be heading our way in January. Going by "Hide," the record's first single, this record is going to be like a straight shot of dopamine right into my earholes. Listen to floating haze of it all below and pre-order the record here from the ever dependable Felte.
Life on Venus
Here's some cold and gloomy shoegaze from Life on Venus, a band hailing from Russia, a country known for its cold and gloominess. Listen to "Glass Gardens" below and download the "Odes to the Void" album here from the band.
Daily Jam - Adhesive
I've long been in the pro-Stone Temple Pilots camp, feeling that the band, however successful, were always unfairly maligned by certain critics and contrarian music fans. Turns out they were actually better than Pearl Jam. Yeah i said it. So, here's "Adhesive" from the band's third album, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Nothing
Too rock n' roll for country and too country for rock n' roll, Dwight Yoakam has always swum in those old rockabilly waters that essentially helped birth both scenes, and i love him for it. Here's "Nothing," a ballad from 1995's "Gone," and our Daily Jam.
SRSQ
Here's a new, dreamy synth pop jam from SRSQ called "Temporal Love." It's wonderful. Listen below, download the single and B-side here, or grab the 7" here from Dais.

Daily Jam - Lips Like Sugar
As my boys are getting older, they'e starting to pick out the music they like on their own, things like Post Malone and Lil Nas X and such. But they can still dig on some of my stuff too, and it's pretty interesting to see what they go for. With my youngest, you can always tell what he likes because he'll try to hum along in the backseat, which is how i discovered he's a fan of "Lips Like Sugar" by Echo and The Bunnymen, as we all should be. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Eple
For a brief period in the early '00s, i got really into chilled out electronica, the kind that used to pop up on those old Ministry of Sound dance and electronic compilations, "Chilled Out in Ibiza," or whatnot. Some of it doesn't hold up. But some of it still swoons. Like Röyksopp. They made great stuff. Check out "Eple" below, our Daily Jam.
Grimes - So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth
Finally getting around to listening to the latest track from Grimes, the floating and ethereal "So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth." Yep. Sounds like Grimes. The upcoming "Miss Anthropocene" LP is out in February on 4AD. Listen to the new single below.

Daily Jam - Ladytron
I first heard Roxy Music in high school, maybe even before, the sounds of "Avalon" echoing to the end of the '80s and beyond. I didn't pay too much attention until i was a teenager, having just discovered Brian Eno through this weirdo i knew back in school. He wore the same puffy orange coat every single day...even in the summer...even in Texas. So i checked out those early Roxy Music albums before Eno departed the band, and i wasn't ready. College brought me into the Bryan Ferry's circle once again via Todd Haynes' "Velvet Goldmine" film, and this time around, i took to it like a fish in water. Nothing else sounds like Roxy Music. And nothing should. Here's "Ladytron" from the band's debut, our Daily Jam.

Mellotron Variations
Mellotron Variations is a project from John Medeski, Pat Sansone, Johnathan Kirkscey, and Robby Grant, a collection of kind of neo-classical film score compositions for some imaginary piece of cinema we'll never be lucky enough to see. There are elements of psych rock, jazz, funk, and library sounds to get the blood warm and flowing in your ears. Watch the video for "Into the Sunrise" below and get the self-titled album here from Spaceflight Records.
Dhidalah
I don't know how they do it, but it certainly seems like the Japanese are just really, really good at sonically melting our faces off. It must be something in the blood. Anyway, here's some face melting, interstellar space rock from Japan's Dhidalah. New album "Threshold" is out next week, and as you may have guessed, it's going to melt your face off. Listen to "Jovian Sky" below and get the record here from Guruguru Brain.
En Attendant Ana
Here's some dreamy, kosmische-tinged, psychedelic pop from French group En Attendant Ana. Fans of Stereolab will certainly appreciate "Words." Check out the video below and pre-order January's upcoming "Juillet" LP here from Trouble In Mind.

Daily Jam - Country Sad Ballad Man
I got into Blur hard during high school on the back end of their Britpop trilogy, a love that was only cemented further when they started getting weirder and pulling from American underground alt-rock. It may have turned some older fans off, but i thought it was wonderful. Anyway, here's "Country Sad Ballad Man" from the band's 1997 self-titled album, our Daily Jam.
Liturgy
New York band Liturgy is one of those harder acts to pin down. An often chaotic blend of black metal, post rock, prog, and spacey weirdness, they're often impossible to categorize. But they're loud. And they're intense. And they're inventive. And i'm here for all of that. Check out "Pasaqalia" from new album "H.A.Q.Q." and get it here from the band.

Lazy Legs
Here's a cool mix of grunge and shoegaze with a hint of stoner metal from Portland duo Lazy Legs. The band's "Moth Mother" album is out now. Get it here and listen to "Clotheater" below.
Daily Jam - Natural One
This song is as hip now as it was when i was in high school. And it probably will continue to be in another 25 years too. Listen to Folk Implosion's "Natural One" below, our Daily Jam.

drowse / AMULETS
Took a weekend trip with the wife and kids to San Antonio to have some fun on the River Walk and the zoo, and now we're home...and exhausted. Here's a new collaboration from two Portland artists, drowse and AMULETS, pulling their talents together to make something super ethereal and hypnotic. Check out "Your Breath Is Wind" below and get the self-titled cassette here from Whited Sepulchre Records.
Daily Jam - Winter Is Coming
Slowdive shoot off Monster Movie released their debut, "Last Night Something Happened," way back in 2001, a dreamy collection of shogaze-tinged pop songs. It's getting the re-issue treatment later this month for Record Store Day's Black Friday event, and it gets my utmost recommendation. Check out the wonderful album closer "Winter Is Coming" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - We Have All the Time in the World
One of the first albums i ever bought for myself was a cassette compilation of James Bond themes that led to a childhood obsession with both the films and the songs. I was probably 6 or 7. Anyway, my love for all things Bond still runs deep, and i have a long affinity for Louis Armstrong's theme from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." Listen to "We Have All the Time in the World" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Porpoise Song
I really wish The Monkees had been able to make and do more stuff like "Head." The film and accompanying soundtrack really showed what they were capable of, summed up perfectly in the wonderful and trippy "Porpoise Song." Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
Dallas Acid
Austin trio Dallas Acid make expansive electronic music utilizing elements of synth pop, 1970s French electronic music, krautrock, ambient, and good old fashioned new age. The result on their latest opus, "The Spiral Arm," is something akin to interstellar travel, the stars blinking and bits and pieces of pop detritus catching the ear before being lost in space for eternity. Listen to the gorgeous title track below and get the record here from All Saints.

Daily Jam - Broken Heart
I was really wanting to play the alternate mix version of Spiritualized's "Broken Heart" today. It's a shorter version, but just as wrecking, including a wailing, anguished harmonica at the end. But i couldn't find it anywhere to embed. So we're just going to listen to the beautiful and moving original version from '97's "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space." It was the first song i ever heard by Spiritualized, and it made me an instant fan. Listen below, our Daily Jam.
Tindersticks featuring Robert Pattinson
I watched Claire Denis's "High Life" a couple of nights ago, and it's really damn good, a kind of meditation on the extinction of humanity. It's also got a great score from Stuart A. Staples, the lead singer of Tindersticks, who also appear with the song over the film's closing credits. Listen to the beautiful "Willow," featuring vocals from the film's star, Robert Pattinson. And get the record here from City Slang.

Daily Jam - Pardon My Innocent Heart
I know i started on a dark and synthy note this morning, but i'm going to move on to some soul. Indiana soul singer Nate Evans only recorded a couple of singles before joining The Impressions, a couple of which i discovered thanks to the always wonderful Numero Group record label, and they're all fantastic. Here's the lovely "Pardon My Innocent Heart," our Daily Jam.
Miles Brown
Here's a new song from electronic artist, Night Terrors member, and theremin player Miles Brown. "Shudder Speed" is full of retro synths and Brown's theremin naturally, a haunting yet punchy jam for this cold day. Listen below and get it here from Nosferatunes.
Box and The Twins
Man, it's damn cold here in Central Texas this morning. And icy. And windy. So much so that the boy's school is delayed by a couple of hours, so here i am writing this and listening to some appropriately chilly and dark synth pop from German duo Box and The Twins. Is the name a sexual double entendre? I don't know. But "The First Dream" pulses and breathes, one of those cold tracks you can practically see your breath to. Check it out below and get the "Zerfall" LP here from the band.

Watchmen
I'm enjoying the new "Watchmen" series on HBO probably a lot more than i would have guessed, and part of that could be attributed to the excellent score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The first volume is out now, with the second and third due later this month. Listen to the ominous "Watch Over This Boy" below go here to order.
Daily Jam - Motherless Child
I'm going to need everyone to just stop what they're doing today and listen to this rendition of the old traditional song "Motherless Child" performed by Max Roach with The J.C. White Singers. It's phenomenal. I heard it for the first time a few years ago and it's been under my skin ever since. Just wonderful, and our Daily Jam.

Psychic Lemon
If you're looking for some music to accompany your own interstellar journey through the cosmos, look no further than then new "Freak Mammal" LP from UK psychedelic space rock band Psychic Lemon. Check out the album opening "Dark Matter" below, a proverbial fountain of noise to meet a giant space baby to. Then grab the record here from the band.
Daily Jam - Not an Addict
You know what? I loved this song when i was in high school. And i think it still holds up. And i don't care what you think. "Not an Addict" by K's Choice, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Something Wicked This Way Comes
I probably got into Barry Adamson after hearing "Something Wicked This Way Comes" on the "Lost Highway" soundtrack back when i was in high school, having no idea that he had once been a Bad Seed. Anyway, anything the man does is recommended, but my favorite will always be my entry point. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
AL†RS
The witch house genre had its brief moment and then kind of went away several years ago, though its style and sounds sill bubble up to surface every now and again. Arizona artist AL†RS trades in these sounds, crafting a hypnotic blend of darkwave synth pop, techno, and industrial din. Listen to "Infinite" below and pay what you want for the new "II" album here from the artist.

Daily Jam - Love from Room 109 at the Islander (On Pacific Coast Highway)
He's always had a rabid following, but i never really got all that into Jeff Buckley. He had a fine voice and everything, but i guess i was just always preferred his father. A great songwriter, who like his son left us far too soon, Tim Buckley made a kind of Americana unique to himself, bits of folk and psych pop and jazz meshed all together. Check out one of my favorites, "Love from Room 109 at the Islander (On Pacific Coast Highway)" below, our Daily Jam.
