Daily Jam - Broken Drum (Boards of Canada Remix)
Though it's got a couple of great songs on it, I've always found Beck's "Guero" LP, along with its remix sibling "Guerolito," to be some of the lesser output from the artist. But the Boards of Canada remix of "Broken Drum" is lights out. It sounds like walking around lost in a big city, but taking it all in. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - You Keep Me Hangin' On
This song rules. I don't care what you think. Here's Kim Wilde with "Keep Me Hangin' On," our Daily Jam.

Saint Etienne
Saint Etienne. Now that's a name i haven't thought about in a long, long time. And like most things from the '90s these days, they're back again. Recorded separately from each other during these times of covid, new album "I've Been Trying to Tell You" pulls from sounds and samples the band created 20+ years ago to ruminate on how much has changed since then, and if the proverbial golden age has come and gone, if it ever even existed at all. Check out "Pond House" below, pre-order the album here from Heavenly, and get your mopey dance on.
Daily Jam - Holding On
The awesome plans i had for this weekend were unexpectedly dashed to pieces this morning, as so many plans have for the last year and a half. Needless to say, i'm in a mood now. So in an effort to lift my spirits, here's some spiritual soul in the vein of the Jackson 5. Check out "Holding On," the one and only release from The Tonistics, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Sucked Out
Superdrag's "Sucked Out" is one of those '90s alt-rock songs that was damn inescapable for a hot minute and then just seemed to vanish into thin air. It's a great little pop nugget, and it deserved better than that. Listen below, our Daily Jam.
Altin Gün
The Netherlands' funky, disco-tinged, world psych rock band Altin Gün are back at it again with a brand new album called "Âlem." The album is only available on Bandcamp, and all of the proceeds go to the nature protection organization Earth Today. Stream the whole thing below, shake your butt a little bit, and then purchase here for a good cause.
Black Marble
Here's a new jam from Brooklyn artist Black Marble, which is precisely what i needed today. "Somewhere" is a cold and dreamy slice of minimalist synth pop, never quite going into full on icy coldwave or dancey bubblegum pop, but just riding the wave in the middle. Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "Fast Idol" LP here from Sacred Bones.
Grouper
Finally some good news. October brings us a new album from Grouper. Let Liz Harris and her gentle, often wistful, often somber, often hypnotic melodies carry you away from here. Check out "Unclean Mind" below and pre-order the "Shade" LP here from Kranky.

YVETTE
I remember hearing New York band YVETTE several years ago, but have no idea what the context was, be it music blog or some random festival i've attended over the last decade, but i remember thinking they were good. Anyway, they're back in my life again this fall with a new album, "How the Garden Grows." Check out the kind of goth, kind of post punk, kind of industrial avant pop of "For a Moment" below and pre-order the LP here from Western Vinyl.

Karen Black and Cass McCombs
I've been a big fan of Karen Black for years, the actress popping up in literally hundreds of films during her career since the '60s, and i never realized she was also a poet and singer. The good folks at Anthology Recordings, along with Black's husband and singer/songwriter Cass McCombs have seen fit to comb through old tapes and reels for a compilation of Black's songs. Included are two tracks written and performed by McCombs and Black before her death in 2013. It's a really cool collection of Americana, folk, and psych-tinged daydreams. Check out "I Wish I Knew the Man I Thought You Were" below and get the "Dreaming of You (1971-1976)" LP here.
Daily Jam - Blue Skied An' Clear
Our freakishly wet and cool July here in Central Texas has met its end, and we're back to 100 degree weather. Here's some mellow music from Slowdive to try and cool down to. Listen to "Blue Skied An' Clear" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Like Spinning Plates ( Live)
Some songs are just better live. I love Radiohead's album version of "Like Spinning Plates" from "Amnesiac." It's weird and eerie and really cool. But there's something just devastating about the live version. That piano. The whole stripped down vibe. Thom Yorke's cracking voice. Just hauntingly wonderful. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - All the Pretty Little Horses
Though it came out in 1996, for some reason i'm only just now hearing the Current 93/Nick Cave collaboration "All the Pretty Little Horses." It's a haunting little folk tune, something to stick to your bones. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Janitor of Lunacy
Even when i go back and listen again and again, i'm never not blown away by how amazing every Nico album was, and ultimately how overlooked they all were too. Just crazy. Here's the dour and foreboding (i guess you could say that about a lot of her work) "Janitor of Lunacy," our Daily Jam.

IDLES and Slowthai
Bristol post punk band IDLES just dropped a new version of their song "Model Village" featuring an assist from British rapper Slowthai. Check it out below and order the 7" here from Partisan Records.
Daily Jam - Your World Is Night

I haven't been able to watch Edgar Wright's Sparks documentary yet, but it is certainly on my to-do list. For the time being, here's "The Number One Song in Heaven," our Daily Jam.

Munya
Montreal artist Munya has made a pretty solid track record for herself the last three years, releasing a slew of excellent dreampop EP's and singles. Her latest, the French pop and chillwave leaning "Pour Toi" keeps the record intact. Bob to it below and download the single here from Luminelle.
Hollie Kenniff
Here's some lonesome and beautiful ambient music to just kind of disintegrate to from Hollie Kenniff. The artist's new album "The Quiet Drift" came out earlier this month featuring 10 floaty, ethereal jams to get lost in. Check out "Sunset Chant" below and get the album here from Western Vinyl.
Daily Jam - Contempt
There was a brief period for me about 15 years ago or so when i got really into the extended works of composer and saxophonist John Zorn. His output is immense and there's so much to get lost in, but one of the albums that i was particularly drawn to was the 1990 self-titled debut of his project Naked City. The record was a mix of freeform jazz, no wave noise, punk, metal, and more, and it blew my post-collegiate mind. Anyway, here's "Contempt," our Daily Jam.

Cindy
Here's a wonderful little heartbroken ballad from San Francisco outfit Cindy. "To Be True" plays like something from the saddest jukebox in all the world, a last dance. Check out the video for the tune below and pre-order the upcoming "1:2" LP here digitally and here on vinyl from Mt. St. Mtn.
Daily Jam - Cold
I may have summer beer on the mind, but winter sounds are filling my ears. Here's The Cure's "Cold," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Be My Druidess
Finished up the "Fear Street" movies on Netflix last night, and they're a lot of fun. Given the '90s backdrop for everything, they sure could have benefitted from some Type O Negative. Just sayin'. Here's "Be My Druidess," our Daily Jam.
Mega Bog
Next week brings us a new album from west coast artist Mega Bog. New single "Maybe You Died" feels like waking up in an otherworldly haze, a little hungover, confused. Dreamy and subdued, off-kilter pop sounds. Check the video for the tune out below and order the "Life, and Another" LP here from Paradise of Bachelors.
RIP Biz Markie
RIP to an absolute mad scientist of hip-hop, a purveyor of the weird and wonderful, a lovable goofball. He made it fun, forever the big kid we all should strive to be again. RIP Biz Markie.

Daily Jam - Paper Bride (Principles of Geometry Remix)
Recently i've found myself back on those first few albums from French electronic duo Principles of Geometry from 10+ years ago. They are a mood. Here's a remix the group did for fellow French artist Poni Hoax. Check out the remix of "Paper Bride" below, our Daily Jam.
BADBADNOTGOOD
In October, we're getting a new record from Toronto's experimental jazz outfit BADBADNOTGOOD. In and of itself, this is good news, but upon hearing the first release from the album, the epic and sprawling "Signal from the Noise," consider me ecstatic. Think if like the otherworldly instrumentals of Bowie's "Low" were recontextualized into proggy jazz numbers and then let loose upon an unsuspecting populace. Marvelous stuff. Check out the video below and pre-order the upcoming "Talk Memory" LP here from XL Recordings.

William Tyler and Luke Schneider
William Tyler and Luke Schneider are both artists who often find themselves using their talents to craft a kind of ambient Americana, folk melodies and steel guitars for floating in space. The duo just released a collaborative album, "Understand," and it's a hypnotic trip. Check out "The Witness Tree" below and get the cassette here from Leaving Records.

Daily Jam - Mysteries
Since the moment i heard it for the first time, i have adored "Mysteries," the opening track from Beth Gibbons' and Rustin Man's "Out of Season" LP. I don't know if i ever would have guessed that pairing members of Portishead and Talk Talk together would create utter magic, but indeed it did. Listen to the haunting track below, our Daily Jam.

Wendy Limery
Here's some super cool French language psychedelic soul from Singapore artist Wendy Limery. The Savage Young Taterbug
Here's some weird, lo-fi acid-country from The Savage Young Taterbug. Full disclosure: i checked this one out solely because the artist is called The Savage Young Taterbug. Check out Dropping Splinter into Baby's Palm" below and pre-order the upcoming 7" record here from Lighten Up Sounds.

A long week of work is starting tomorrow, so trying to put myself in an appropriately energetic mindset with Elvis Costello & The Attractions' "Pump It Up." Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Natalie Bergman and Beck
Natalie Bergman is one half of the brother/sister duo Wild Belle who released her debut solo album "Mercy" earlier this year, and Beck is...well, Beck. The two just teamed together for a cover of Dutch psych rock band Lion's 1975 track "You've Got a Woman." It's a cool and breezy, laid back jam. Check it out below, and be on the lookout for a 7" from Third Man Records.
Daily Jam - People Who Died
Here's some Jim Carroll Band for your Saturday morning. Listen to "People Who Died" below, our Daily Jam.

Angel Olsen
Angel Olsen has had quite a banner couple of years with a career defining album, a stripped down and reworked version of said career defining album, a great collaboration with Sharon Van Etten, and coming out of the closet. And now she's got a new EP of covers on the horizon featuring her versions of tracks by Billy Idol and Men Without Hats among others. Check out Olsen's wonderful cover of Laura Branigan's "Gloria" below and pre-order the "Aisles" EP here from Jagjaguwar.
Daily Jam - Tyler
Here's an absolute staple from my high school and college years. Is it a Pixies ripoff? Sure it is. Are the lyrics creepy? You bet. I love it. Listen to "Tyler" by the Toadies below, our Daily Jam.
