Daily Jam - Backwater
It's fast approaching its 30th anniversary, and the Meat Puppets' "Backwater" still hits the same all these years later. This one is instant aural nostalgia for me in all the best ways. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Mayflower Brought Disease
Not content making thousands of albums with Guided By Voices or solo, Robert Pollard also drops the occasional opus with his side project Circus Devils. Listen to the crunchy "Mayflower Brought Disease" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Dream On
These days, Australian artist Luke Steele makes music with the electro-pop glam band Empire of The Sun, and while that's cool, i miss his original psych-tinged and cinematic project The Sleepy Jackson. Here's "Dream On," from that band's sophomore effort and what would prove to also be their swan song, "Personality (One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird)." Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Boy 1904
If all has gone according to plan, i'm at the beach and you're reading a pre-written and scheduled blog post. I'm hoping i'm by the ocean, listening to the surf, finding some kind of inner peace. Here's a soothing track from Jonsi & Alex that can put me in a similar place. Listen to "Boy 1904" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Some Swords (Reprise)
The Fucking Champs are known primarily for their killer guitar riffs and their awesome name. But here's a guitarless cut from their third album, a haunting and simple piano version of "Some Swords." Check out "Some Swords (Reprise)" below, our Daily Jam.

Infinity Knives & Brian Ennals
Late last night, i stumbled upon the phenomenal new collaborative record between producer Infinity Knives and Baltimore rapper Brian Ennals. "King Cobra" is full of humor and righteous anger, electro synth, funk, and post punk, and an off-kilter vibe that left me spellbound. Check out "The Not So Tired Sounds of Brian Ennals" below and get the record here from Phantom Limb.
Daily Jam - The Mirror
Vacation starts in just about two and a half hours. Let's celebrate with some Dream Theater. Here's "The Mirror," our Daily Jam.

Fotocrime Covers Leonard Cohen
Post punk artist Fotocrime has announced a new EP of covers called "Alcoves." The artist will drop a new cover every week until the album is released, and the first is an adequately dark version of Leonard Cohen's "Avalanche." Check it out below, and be on the lookout for the album's release.
Thor Harris
Austin's Thor Harris made a name for himself drumming for Swans and shit-posting online about Nazis and the best way to punch them. When he's not doing those things, he makes all manner of experimental music. His latest is the upcoming "Doom Dub II," which finds him channeling dub reggae into ghostly ruminations with the aid of artists like Adam Harding, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, and more. Check out the Zola Jesus, Craig Ross, and Dorian Wood assisted "Day 447 of Quarantine" below and pre-order the album here from Joyful Noise.
Minuit Machine
Here's a new track from French darkwave duo Minuit Machine. Listen to "Lion in a Cage" below and get the song here from Synth Religion.
Kendrick Lamar Featuring Beth Gibbons
I haven't been able to sit down and really listen to and absorb Kendrick Lamar's latest album yet, which is a shame since "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers" has been out for over a month now, but a standout for me has to be the Beth Gibbons assisted "Mother I Sober." Lamar starts with a subdued, almost whispered delivery before gradually raising his voice while Gibbons provides ghostly backing vocals over piano. Check it out below and stream the album wherever you like stream albums.
Daily Jam - Party Up
For some reason, i woke up this morning with "Party Up" by DMX in my head. I don't know why, except that it certainly is infectious. It's also got what might be my most favorite rap lyric ever:
Listen, yo' ass is about to be missin'
You know who gon' find you, who, some old man fishin'
Yes. Listen to the track below, our Daily Jam.

Unloved
I don't know too much about LA alt-rock band Unloved except that a lot of their music was featured on the TV show "Killing Eve." But their upcoming new record, "The Pink Album," features guest spots from both Jon Spencer and Jarvis Cocker, so they have my attention. Check out the dreamy "Thinkin' About Her" below and pre-order the album here from Heavenly Recordings.
Russian Circles
The end of this summer is looking to bring us all manner of cool, new metal, including the latest effort from Chicago's Russian Circles. Dig on the stoner-prog-doom of "Conduit" below and pre-order the download for "Gnosis" here from Sargent House.
Locrian
It's been a spell since we last heard from Chicago drone metal band Locrian, but all that changes with August's upcoming "New Catastrophism" album. Check out the sprawling, practically oozing, and ominous "The Glare Is Everywhere and Nowhere Our Shadow" below, and pre-order the album here from Profound Lore.
Calderum
I've written before about how a lot of black metal bands have begun to infuse their sound with elements of dungeon synth, and vice versa, and the latest from Spanish band Calderum meshes the two genres together nicely. The closing track from their upcoming new album "Mystical Fortress of Iberian Lands," however, is pure dungeon synth. Check out "The Enchanted Forest" below and pre-order the album here from Death Prayer Records.
Makaya McCraven
September brings us a new album of no-wave jazz from Chicago percussionist, composer, and producer Makaya McCraven. Check out the wonderful and gorgeous "Seventh String" below, and pre-order the "In These Times" LP here from International Anthem.
Daily Jam - TNT
I start a 10-day vacation on Friday afternoon, and i've got so much work to get done before then. Gonna plow through it and listen to some Tortoise. Check out the early post-rock vibes of "TNT" below, our Daily Jam.

Cumulostratus
Here's a cool and dreamy mix of ambience and chillwave from the Pacific Northwest. Cumulostratus makes synth soundscapes to float around in for awhile. Check out "Autumn Horizons" below and get the new "Old Spells" cassette here from Puget Sound Collective.
Daily Jam - P Control
It's been a long time since i've been to a club to dance, but in my hazy memory, i can't recall another song that put the women in a frenzy quite like Prince's "P Control." As it should be. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Silent to the Dark
Here's a long track from English band The Electric Soft Parade that starts off like a piece of late era Britpop/indie rock and then turns into a subdued piece of electronic ambience. Nice. Listen to "Silent to the Dark" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Turning In
It's Father's Day. Let's enjoy the library sounds of LA artist Maston. Check out "Turning In" from 2017's "Tulips" LP, our Daily Jam.

Conway The Machine
Buffalo rapper Conway The Machine just dropped new album "What Has Been Blessed Cannot Be Cursed." It's the rapper's third collaboration with producer Big Ghost Ltd., and like the duo's previous records, it rules. Check out "It's a Green Light" below and download the album here.
Daily Jam - Willow's Song
Not sure how i missed that The Go! Team recorded a cover of Paul Giovanni's "Willow's Song" from the soundtrack to "The Wickerman" 15 years ago, but here we are. Evidently the cover appeared on a bonus disc on the UK CD special edition release of the band's "Proof of Youth." So there you go. Anyway, check it out below, our Daily Jam.

The Soft Moon
Here's some new music from LA's The Soft Moon. New album "Exister" is out in September. Order it here from Sacred Bones and listen to industrial darkwave of "Him" featuring Fish Narc below.
Daily Jam - The Paisley Window Pane
I'm sure it's been a long week for everyone. So here's some gently, dreamy psych folk from '60s teenage duo Wendy & Bonnie. Listen to "The Paisley Window Pane" below, our Daily Jam.

Renata Zeiguer
Here's some very cool throwback pop from New York artist Renata Zeiguer. Elements of jazz, psych, and soul abound in a cinematic swirl. Dig on the spy movie guitar and slink of "Burning Castle" below and get the "Picnic in the Dark" LP here from Northern Spy.

alt-rock,
jazz,

Daily Jam - Hysteria
Def Leppard really managed to set the template for arena-ready hard rock pop with the production aesthetic of "Hysteria." It's slick as hell, but i love it anyway. Here's the title track for our Daily Jam.

Psychic Ills & Gibby Haynes
Apparently back in 2010, psych rock band Psychic Ills recorded some material with the Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes for RVNG Intl.'s FRKWYS collaborative series. And now, it's finally seeing the light of day as "FRKWYS Vol. 4.5: Nowhere in the Night." Check out "Something Like That" below and order the record here.
Preoccupations
Daily Jam - Happy 13
Sometimes, amongst all this '80s and '90s nostalgia that permeates our pop culture, i forget about how much great, weird, and different music came out in the '00s. I'm sure we're just a few years away from that era's own nostalgia bomb, but i'm getting in there now. Anyway, here's a cool indie pop track from the band Flotation Toy Warning from 2004. Listen to "Happy 13" below, our Daily Jam.

Braxe + Falcon + Panda Bear
French electronic duo Braxe + Falcon have teamed with Animal Collective's Panda Bear on their upcoming "Step By Step" EP. The title track finds the trio channeling the most chilled out of yacht rock vibes for a perfect summer jam. Check it out below and pre-order the 12" here from Smugglers Way.
Sam Gendel & Antonia Cytrynowicz
LA artist Sam Gendel makes weird, experimental, ambient jazz, but i'm at a loss on how to accurately describe his most recent effort "Live A Little." The album is a mostly improvised mix of otherworldly hum and ambient tones with vocals from an 11-year old Antonia Cytrynowicz, the little sister of Gendel's significant other and creative partner. This is totally alien music that's at once soothing and unsettling. Check out "Something Real" below and get the album here from Psychic Hotline.
Daily Jam - The Reflex
Absolutely one of my favorite songs when i was in the 1st grade. Here's "The Reflex," by Duran Duran, our Daily Jam.

Dummy
Here's a new track from LA band Dummy on Sub Pop's singles series. "Mono Retriever" is lovely bit of swirling, kosmische inspired, psych pop. Check it out below and get it here.
Daily Jam - Bring the Noise
I know white boys digging on Public Enemy was a total cliche back in the day, but when i first heard them, probably around '89 or '90 when i was in the 4th or 5th grade, they were a revelation. I am a part of the cliche. Anyway, here's "Bring the Noise," our Daily Jam.

Boyhood
Canadian artist Boyhood has a new album coming our way in the fall. Check out the sweet and hummable indie pop of "Stroke It" below and pre-order the "My Dread" LP here.
Daily Jam - Snowblind
Full confession...i'm not super versed in Black Sabbath. Sure, i'm familiar with all the obvious stuff, a few tracks from the first few albums, but i'm hardly a devotee. That being said, "Black Sabbath Vol. 4" kicks ass. I'm pretty sure i was drawn to it originally because of "Supernaut," but through the years, i think "Snowblind" may be the best track of the bunch. So let's listen to it. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

RIP Julee Cruise
Terrible news to wake up to this morning, as singer and artist Julee Cruise has passed away. Her dreamy and ghostly vocals provided a sonic tapestry for "Twin Peaks," and it's an aesthetic (and sometime anesthetic) i come back to over and over again. Listen to "The World Spins" below. RIP Julee Cruise.
