Viul & Benoit Pioulard
About to step away to work, but couldn't resist posting about the utter transcendent bliss of "Konec," the new collaborative ambient album from Viul & Benoit Pioulard. Beautiful and meditative, these are the kinds of sounds you want to fill your whole house with, to close your eyes, and just breathe and be for a little while. Listen to "Catalune" below and get the LP here from A Strangely Isolated Place.
Ghost Funk Orchestra
The smooth soul and funk of New York's Ghost Funk Orchestra is just the kind of thing one needs to hear to get one moving in the morning. So happy day to all of us that the band has a new album heading our way in October. Here's new tune "Scatter." Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming "A New Kind of Love" LP here from Colemine Records.

Daily Jam - Moon Trills
I am absolutely exhausted today. Can barely get myself to get up and do anything. And i have plenty to do. But that bed sure does look inviting. Here's Jonny Greenwood's "Moon Trills" from his "Bodysong" score, our Daily Jam.

Julia Shapiro Remixed by Jenn Champion
Last year, Seattle artist Julia Shapiro released the excellent "Zorked" LP. A highlight of that album was "Death (XIII)," which now gets the remix treatment from Jenn Champion. The new version is almost completely unrecognizable from the original, turning a grungey shoegaze track into a moody synth pop jam. Check it out below and get it here from Suicide Squeeze.

Aux Meadows
I love that ambient country music is a thing. Lap steels playing into the cosmos for closing time at some interstellar honkytonk. Check out "Modern Nostalgia" from Oakland band Aux Meadows below, and then just kind of float away. Listen below and get the self-titled cassette here from the band.
Daily Jam - Walk on By
My entire body hurts today. I don't think i realized how strenuous painting a house could be. I ache. So here's something smooth and funky from Isaac Hayes to make things better. Listen to "Walk on By" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Nicotine and Gravy
I went back and listened to Beck's 1999 album "Midnite Vultures" recently, and it's still and astoundingly fun party album. Here's "Nicotine and Gravy," our Daily Jam.

Landlords
I've got a house painting project laying ahead of me today, which, while it needs to be done, is not something i'm looking forward to doing. So, here's some appropriately moody music to suit my demeanor from New Zealand band Landlords. The band combines elements of shoegaze, slowcore, and sludge metal to make a thick and heavy sound. Check out "Clover" below and then grab the "Codeine" EP here from Church Road Records.
Daily Jam - You Made My Dreams Come True
Here's some jangly indie pop for you Saturday. Listen to Holy Shit's "You Made My Dreams Come True" below, our Daily Jam.

Magdalena Bay
LA pop duo Magdalena Bay are set to release the deluxe edition of last year's "Mercurial World" next month. Generally speaking, i'm not a fan of these kinds of deluxe releases happening so soon after the original version came out. It just kinda feels like a cynical cash grab. But my feelings on things aside, this new edition of the album is packed with extra material: remixes, medleys, new songs, B-sides, and secrets. One of these new tunes is the wonderful and dreamy "All You Do." Check out the video for the lush and airy track below and pre-order the deluxe album (if that's your kind of thing) here from Luminelle.
Irth
Here's some fuzzy psych and krautrock indebted music from New Zealand duo Irth. "Night Trip" sounds like it could be playing poolside or on the outer reaches of the galaxy. Check it out below and download the group's "EP 1" here.
Daily Jam - My Trunk Is Boomin'
True story: i used to work with this guy. Here's some Miami bass from Chill-C with "My Trunk Is Boomin'," our Daily Jam.

The Drin
Cincinnati post-punk band The Drin have a new album of lo-fi noise, feedback, and dread heading our way next month with "Down River in the Distance." Check out "Reach Through the Midnight" below and pre-order the record here from Future Shock.
Daily Jam - I'm the One
Though they made plenty of noise back in the '80s, my introduction to Cali punk band Descendents was the 1996 comeback album "Everything Sucks" and the single "I'm the One." It's a blast of '90s pop punk and quite the little earworm. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Kind of hard to hear this song and not think about walking into the Emporium. Here's Bob Dylan and "Hurricane," our Daily Jam.

Szun Waves
Fishing around on Bandcamp last night after my kids went to sleep, and i came across the astounding sounds of UK act Szun Waves. A hypnotic and cosmos-spanning mix of electronic, jazz, and psychedelia with this mountainous and cinematic post-rock vibe, the group's new "Earth Patterns" LP feels like an absolutely enormous piece of work. Check out the album opening "Exploding Upwards" below and get the album here from The Leaf Label.

Garage rock never goes away, and we're all the better for it. Here's a cut from 30 years ago from The Wolfmen. "I Don't Want No One" comes form "The Mummies Vs. The Wolfmen" split 7", a record with some of my favorite album art of all time from Coop (Chris Cooper). Check the tune out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Cats Eyes
Remembering back to the mid '00s when indie rock was in bloom and there was almost an overabundance of music blogs posting it all for the masses with free (and probably copyright infringing) mp3's for all. It was a time. And it's when i heard "Cats Eyes" by the band Guillemots. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

House of Harm

Daily Jam - Poison
My mom has a habit of keeping all kinds of things from the past that came from my siblings and me: old drawings, letters, school projects, etc. She does the same thing with her grandkids. Moving some stuff around in her house recently, i came across an Christmas list i had written for her and my dad back in 1990. It had all the usual books and toys and clothes, but also included a request for the cassette tape of Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison" album. Readers, let me tell you, i got that tape. Here's the title track, our Daily Jam.

The Stargazer Lilies
The wonderful Philly shoegaze band, now based in Largo, Florida, The Stargazer Lilies, have a new record on the horizon with the upcoming "Cosmic Tidal Wave." Check out the dreamy, goopy, delirious "Bending the Lines" below and pre-order the record here from Floravinyl Records.
Daily Jam - Scandalous
In the summer of 1989 and pretty much through 5th grade, Prince's "Batman" soundtrack was pure fire. Truth be told, it's still pretty rad. Here's "Scandalous," a track that was entirely too sexy for me back then, our Daily Jam.

No Age
Noisy LA punk duo No Age are back this Fall with new album "People Helping People." I feel like it's been awhile since we last heard from these guys. So it's good to have them back. Here's new track "Tripped Out Before Scott." Check it out below and pre-order the new LP here from Drag City.
Daily Jam - Little Lamb Dragonfly
Sometimes i don't think i give Paul McCartney the credit he deserves. It's probably due to an innate and subconscious aversion to "boomer music" (the inner punk in me as it were), but the man really is a wonderful songwriter. And why by a contrarian anyway? So here's Sir Paul with "Little Lamb Dragonfly," our Daily Jam.
