Daily Jam - Lonely Richard

I've spent the last few months going through my admittedly massive music collection (vinyl, CD"s, cassettes, MP3's, and so on) to purge some stuff i never listen to and save a whole bunch of files to some external hard drives.  And while doing so, i have re-immersed myself in so many wonderful songs that i kind of forgot about.  One of those is the kinda lo-fi indie folk jam "Lonely Richard" from Amen Dunes' 2014 album "Love."  It sounds like watching dust and clouds blow over desert landscape, a catch in your heart and a song in your throat.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Amen Dunes

Damon McMahon's Amen Dunes project has traversed in all manner of sound, from lo-fi and mangled underground rock to dusty and hallowed Americana, each release revealing different layers of the artist both sonically and thematically.  March brings us a new record, "Freedom," which continues to push McMahon in new directions.  Elements of groove, grime, and funk move us to dark and personal spaces on what looks to be another stellar release from McMahon.  Listen to "Miki Dora" below and get the record from Sacred Bones.

Amen Dunes - Song to the Siren

Amen Dunes' "Love" LP has easily been one of my favorite records to come out this year, and apparently there was a whole lot of material that didn't make the cut.  Some of those songs are now being issued on an EP called "Cowboy Worship" coming out in January on Sacred Bones.  Check out the dusty and weary cover of This Mortal Coil's cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren."

Amen Dunes

"Love," the latest album from Amen Dunes, plays like forgotten songs on an old radio in a rusty, broken-down car, static in the air, dust blowing off the road, dark clouds forming in the horizon, the smell of rain and mud.  Main man Damon McMahon brings in some help this time around from members of Iceage and Godspeed You! Black Emperor to expand the band's sound.  The album feels close to Americana roots and folk, but floats just high enough off of the ground with tinges of post punk and reverb as to feel like a fading memory.  Get the lovely album from Sacred Bones and listen to "Lonely Richard" below.
