LOMA

And now for some soothing, dreamy, melancholy folk from Dripping Springs, Texas and LOMA.  The project of Emily Cross (Cross Record), Dan Duszynski, and Jonathan Meiburg (Shearwater), the trio craft wonderfully ambient-tinged folk rock that hits all those sweet spots right in the center of the heart.  Check out new tune "How It Starts" below and pre-order the upcoming "How Will I Live without a Body?" Loma

The wonderful Dripping Springs, TX band Cross Record have teamed up with Shearwater's Jonathan Meiburg for a new project called Loma.  The project looks to be full of haunting and devastating beauty.  The self-titled album is due in February from Sub Pop.  In the meanwhile, watch the video for "Black Willow" below.

I've been out of town the last few days (somehow bringing Texas heat with me up to Colorado), and i'm a few days behind on new music that's circulating out there, most notably the latest music from Our First Days.  Day 23 brought us an excellent and jarring new track from local band Cross Record, a haunting piece of droning dark folk.  Listen to "Sharpness" below and buy the album already.

Cross Record

It's always a joy to find new music growing in your own back yard.  In the case of Cross Record, that would be Dripping Springs, Texas, a small town right outside of Austin.  A blend of dark folk, goth, psych, and drone, with a light layer of doom, the band's music is somehow dreamy, haunting, hypnotizing, and foreboding all at the same time.  Get the upcoming "Wabi-Sabi" LP later this month from Ba Da Bing Records and listen to "Basket" below.
