Truth be told, i'm not really any kind of Mitski fan.  It's not that i think she's bad.  She's not.  I've just never really paid too much attention to her particular brand of indie pop.  Anyway, i do have to admit that i love her new track "My Love Mine All Mine," an almost jazzy and loungey melancholy ballad.  Check it out below and get the new "The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We" LP here from Dead Oceans.

Khruangbin Remixed

August brings us a new album from Houston's Khruangbin, this time in remix form.  "Mordechai Remixes" reworks tunes from, you guessed it, last year's "Mordechai" LP.  The band's particular brand of world psych and funk lends itself to being reworked by other artists, so this record should be cool as shit.  Check out Quantic's "Pelota (Cut a Rug Mix)" below and pre-order the album here from Dead Oceans.

Bleached - Shitty Ballet

Here's a new track from Bleached.  "Shitty Ballet" sounds like some lost '90s alt-rock tune that builds and builds and builds until it finally breaks in a wave of fuzzy guitar riffs and feedback.  It feel nice.  Watch the video below and maybe be on the lookout for a new record soon on Dead Oceans.

Kevin Morby

I don't know why, but for some reason i've just never really given much thought to Kevin Morby.  I know he's good and all, but i guess nothing's ever really grabbed my attention.  That being said, his new jam "No Halo" is fantastic, full of piano and flute and sax and soulful backing vocals.  Watch the video for the song below and pre-order the upcoming "Oh My God" LP here via Dead Oceans.

Khruangbin - Christmas Time Is Here

We're in the post-Thanksgiving/pre-Christmas days of the year, which means Christmas music will be practically inescapable for the next 4 weeks.  But that's not necessarily a bad thing, as i've mentioned before, that despite my distaste and distrust for organized religion and rampant, unhinged consumerism, i love Christmas time and the pop music it brings us.  There's some good, even great stuff out there, both classic and new.  You just have to look for it.  And so we have Houston's Khruangbin and their soulful psych groove rendition of the Vince Guaraldi classic "Christmas Time Is Here."  You know, the one from Charlie Brown.  Anyway, give it a listen below and download it here from Dead Oceans.

New York's Mitski has been making a name for herself as a premiere American songwriter over the last few years, even getting such luminaries as Iggy Pop as a cheerleader.  New album "Be the Cowboy" is out now on Dead Oceans (get it here), and check out the beautiful and moody closer "Two Slow Dancers" below.

A Place to Bury Strangers

Khruangbin

Sometimes i forget just how big and diverse the city of Houston is.  I love Austin to death, but the cultural hub of Texas is more than likely a 3 hour drive southeast of us.  And bringing the proverbial noise is Houston 3-piece Khruangbin and their amazing blend of funk, psych, surf rock, and world vibes.  Translated from Thai, the band's name means "Engine Fly," and they keep the groove cool and humming.  New album "Con Todo El Mundo" is due in January on Dead Oceans, but listen to "Maria Tambien" below in the meantime.

Japanese Breakfast - Machinist

It appears that Japanese Breakfast are going full on science fiction synth pop on sophomore effort "Soft Sounds from Another Planet."  Check the video for "Machinist" below and pre-order the record here from Dead Oceans.

Slowdive - Sugar for the Pill (Avalon Emerson's Gilded Escalation)
