Jenny Hval

The wonderful Jenny Hval has a new album of moody pop heading our way in September.  This lady knocks it out of the park with every release, so keep an eye out.  Check out "Ashes to Ashes" below and pre-order "The Practice of Love" here from Sacred Bones.

Zonal

Justin Broadrick (of Jesu, Godflesh and more) and Kevin Martin (of The Bug) have joined forces for a new collaborative project called Zonal.  Dubby, droney, noisy, unsettling, and spooky, the duo have created a slow and low menacing kind of sound.  Listen to "Cage Version" below, download it and another track here, and be on the lookout for a full-length album sometime in the future on Relapse.

Daily Jam - Territorial Pissings

In a few hours i'll be making my way towards Washington for a long weekend of old friends and breweries.  So, i figured the next four songs on this Daily Jam thing i've been doing should come from the "big 4," if you will, of the '90s Seattle grunge explosion.  Of course i'm going to start with Nirvana.  All these years later, and they're still one of my favorites.  Here's "Territorial Pissings" from "Nevermind," your Daily Jam.

MOLLY

It seems like it's been a hot minute since i last heard from or thought of Austrian shoegaze duo MOLLY.  And now that's remedied, as the band just released new album, "All That Ever Could Have Been."  Check out the epic and post rock indebted opening track "Coming of Age" below and get the album here from Sonic Cathedral.

Daily Jam - Open Up Your Heart

I remember years ago when New York band The Rapture were supposed to be the next big thing.  It never really happened, the band kind of falling prey to their own hype, as happens to so many next big things.  Anyway, their debut LP "Echoes" is still really good.  Listen to the subdued no-wave aesthetic of "Open Up Your Heart" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Beers, Steers & Queers

"Crazy?"
"Hahahaha Dang."
"So I gotta call the other number, find out when they're, what, how much it is to get in there."
"hmmm"
"Probably five dollars, find out where it's at."
"I don't know if they're gonna have a band there tomorrow night, somebody popular, you know 'cause the Village People are popular."
"Yeah."
"Or they used to be."
"Well I don't know what this cock thing is I think it's a..."
"Revolting Cocks Hahahaha"
I think it's a um it's a, a male strip show, dance show yeah male strippers hmm I have to call 'em and ask 'em, what is that...what'd they call it?"
"The Revolting Cocks"
"Okay, hahaha, oh lord, okay well I, you have fun tonight."
"Okay, if y'all get a chance, come out okay."
"Alright"
"Alright?"
"Goodbye"

Pharmakon

Experimental noise artist Pharmakon has a new album of abrasive, stomach-churning sound headed our way at summer's end called "Devour."  It's about self-cannibalism because of course it is.  Anyway, check out the first taste of the record, "Self Regulating System," below and pre-order it here from Sacred Bones.

Ancient Pools

Here's some dreamy, lo-fi synth pop from Portland duo Ancient Pools to get us (me in particular) moving on this otherwise crappy Monday.  May the Garfield emotions persist.  Anyway, check out "Forget" below, the album opening track from the band's "Cosine," and get the whole thing here from the band.

Daily Jam - Beds Are Burning

I'm sure there are folks out there who don't like Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning," but i don't want to know them.  Listen to it below, our Daily Jam.  And sing along!

Dead Sea Apes

Here's some doomy, droney, mind melting, psychedelic mayhem from Manchester's Dead Sea Apes.  20+ minutes of cosmic and brainwave exploration, "The Free Territory" plays like someone setting off and EMP inside your head.  Check it out below and get the album of the same name here from the band.
