Well, i managed to catch a few shows last week during SXSW, though there were a few artists i really wanted to see that were just not meant to be (Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs just wasn't in the cards for me despite my best efforts). I had fun, but i will say that the vibe was kind off from previous years, and not just because of our new COVID reality. Comments have trickled out from various venues around town about how disorganized or outright flippant the festival was in regards to booking acts at official spaces. Many clubs were left dark and empty in the evenings, and of those that had artists slotted to perform, many booked them themselves in an unofficial capacity. This is all disheartening. And i realize that as the tech side of the festival gets bigger and admittedly more profitable, attention to the music side is waning. That's going to have to be remedied, lest SXSW just become another tech bro goober fest.
