Magdalena Bay

LA pop duo Magdalena Bay are set to release the deluxe edition of last year's "Mercurial World" next month.  Generally speaking, i'm not a fan of these kinds of deluxe releases happening so soon after the original version came out.  It just kinda feels like a cynical cash grab.  But my feelings on things aside, this new edition of the album is packed with extra material: remixes, medleys, new songs, B-sides, and secrets.  One of these new tunes is the wonderful and dreamy "All You Do."  Check out the video for the lush and airy track below and pre-order the deluxe album (if that's your kind of thing) here from Luminelle.

MUNYA

Canadian dreampop artist MUNYA just dropped a couple of new versions of songs from last year's "Voyage to Mars" LP.  Check out the sunny and serene "Boca Chica (Bon Voyage Version)" below and download "Bon Voyage" here from Luminelle.

Enumclaw

Here's a new one from Tacoma's Enumclaw.  The throwback early '90s alt-rock vibes are strong on this one.  Check out "2002" below and download the single here from Luminelle.  Also, maybe catch the band when they're bumming around Austin in a couple of weeks.

Munya

Montreal artist Munya has made a pretty solid track record for herself the last three years, releasing a slew of excellent dreampop EP's and singles.  Her latest, the French pop and chillwave leaning "Pour Toi" keeps the record intact.  Bob to it below and download the single here from Luminelle.

So originally i was going to take this week off for SXSW.  And then it got cancelled because of coronavirus.  But then some venues organized some replacement shows with local bands and a few touring acts that were already going to be here anyway.  So i decided to work a half week instead and then catch the shows that i could.  And then those shows got cancelled because of coronavirus.  And then we found out my kids would be home an additional two weeks.  And then my office closed and i'm working from home.  And then restaurants and bars closed.  And stores.  And more.  And now we're home, and i'm taking today and tomorrow off anyway to watch my boys and write about a lot of the acts that just a week and a half ago i thought i'd be seeing.  Anyway, let's maintain our social distance and contain this goddamn thing, and cross our fingers that a global depression and a further rise in fascism aren't waiting for us on the other side.

Jackie Mendoza

Texas record label Luminelle have quietly been amassing a pretty stellar roster of pop artists over the last year, many of whom will be in Austin next week playing parties and showcases for SXSW.  One of those is Brooklyn electronic pop artist Jackie Mendoza.  Her "LuvHz" EP is out on the label in April (pre-order here), and you can listen to the breezy "Seahorse" below.

Morabeza Tobacco - Ally McBeal

Swedish duo Morabeza Tobacco are set to release their debut self-titled full-length this May on Luminelle, and they've just put out a video for the wistful, dreamy, album-closing "Ally McBeal."  The song pangs and yearns and sounds so familiar.  Anyway, check it out below and pre-order the record here.  Also, be on the lookout for them at SXSW.

Munya

Montreal dreampop artist Munya popped up on my radar last year with her "North Hatley" EP.  She followed that up with another EP, and now March brings us a third, "Blue Pine," which essentially finishes the trilogy.  Also in March, Luminelle will collect the three EP's on one self-titled album.  Listen to the latest, "It's All About You," below and pre-order the album here.

Das Body

Though only about a year old, Texas label Luminelle has issued a pretty great string of pop records so far this year from the likes of Anemone, Helena Deland, and more.  One of their most recent signees is Oslo band Das Body, who have just released their self-titled EP full of electro-synth pop.  Listen to "Boys" below and order the record here.

Anemone

Montreal's breezy, dreamy psychedelic pop band Anemone are set to release their first full-length LP early next year via Luminelle.  I've been a huge fan of the band since catching one of their amazing SXSW performances last March, and i'm giddy for more new jams.  Listen to "Sunshine (Back to the Start)" below and pre-order "Beat My Distance" here.

Morabeza Tobacco - Defenders of the Glam
