Xander Harris
I feel like it's been a spell since i last heard from Xander Harris, the techno synth project of Justin Sweatt. But the now Denton, Texas based artist just released new music with the "Edgelords of Acid" EP. Check out the propulsive, hypnotic title track below and get the album here from the artist.

Xander Harris
Former Austin artist Xander Harris relocated to New Orleans a little while back and began work on an ambitious double album...that unfortunately will not come to be. The artist, otherwise known as Justin Sweatt, was hit by a car while riding his bike, and being an independent musician, his health insurance is shit. Healing, etc. took time away from the project which has now been slimmed down to a leaner, meaner 9 tracks called "Villains of Romance." Listen to "Mall Walk" below, pre-order the upcoming vinyl release from Burning Witches here, and throw some money the artist's way by downloading the album from him here.

Xander Harris - Beautiful Blues
Somatic Records here in Austin is a pretty cool little label that puts out kinds of synthy, droney, noisy goodies. (Full disclosure: i'm friends with one of the guys who runs the label.) Anyway, celebrating the fact that they've completely sold out of all of their first run cassette releases, the label is offering up some of their offerings for free download for a limited time. Right now, you can snag Xander Harris' new half hour opus "Beautiful Blues," and you should,as it's a sweeping, washing piece of sound, and perfect to cool out to later tonight after fireworks. Listen below.

Xander Harris
Here's some new, mind-altering, synthy techno from Xander Harris. "Jaws of Saturn" opens upcoming album "Termination Dust," due at the end of April from the excellent Data Airlines, and sounds something akin to getting lost inside the Aurora Borealis. Listen below.

Xander Harris
Austin's Justin Sweatt, otherwise known as dark, disco-synth purveyor Xander Harris has a new album out today on Rock Action. "California Chrome" pulses and oozes, a kind of sweaty, bleeding disco or techno music for dance halls surrounded by barbed wire. Listen to "Buckle Bunny" below.

Red Ox
I finally, finally, finally got to go out and catch my friend's band Red Ox last night and dive deep into their sonic swirl of drone, doom metal, proggy synth rock, psych, and just a hint of stoner metal. It's a fantastic mix, and a proper debut LP should be on the horizon in the future. In the meantime, check out a couple of pics from last night's performance at The Mohawk and listen to an old live recording of "And in the Night Bind Us/Drought" below.

Slow Pulse
Slow Pulse is the dreamy, minimal synth project from Justin Sweatt (Xander Harris) and Nic Nadeau (Single Lash). Dark and moody atmospheres prevail. Take a listen to "Hardware" below and grab the cassette from Mirror Universe Tapes.

Xander Harris
Local Austin synthesizer enthusiast Xander Harris will be releasing his second LP, "The New Dark Age of Love," next week via Not Not Fun. It's a dancey, trancey concoction, perfect for sci-fi scores and long night drives through the neon city. Listen to "Night Fortress" below and grab the record here.

Silver Apples New Years Eve pics
We rang in the new year in a cold, damp warehouse on the east side of Austin with a grand mix of old reformed hippies, hipsters, music nerds, drugged out ex-raver kids, and a silver painted naked girl, all gathering together to listen to a selection of synthesizer based psych rock. Headlining the show was the surviving member of the legendary Silver Apples performing on some old analog machines. Good stuff...and the cops never showed up, so a happy new year to all. Here's some pics.
