Anna Calvi & Iggy Pop

UK artist Anna Calvi is set to release a string of new EP's over the next year exploring identity as a metamorphosis, shaped and reshaped through the experience of falling in love.  The whole thing was inspired by becoming a parent and features a great array of guest artists contributing, like Laurie Anderson and Perfume Genius.  Check out the Iggy Pop assisted "God's Lonely Man" below and pre-order the "Is This All There Is?" A night in 1998: skipping a class...coming home early...cigarette with the neighbor...Jack and Coke...dinner with friends some place that doesn’t card...meeting at someone’s apartment...weed and beer...a house party somewhere...packs of smokes...whiskey...bourbon...beer...tacos...more weed and beer...something stronger...accidentally setting fire to the backyard...almost crashing a car...another party...stealing a keg...running through the park...skinny dipping with strange girls...a quick stop at a corner store for more cigarettes...whiskey...bourbon...beer...more weed and more beer...making out with a stranger...passing out in a bathroom...waking up...acoustic guitar jam in a hot tub...nudity...passing out again...waking up again in a strange bed in a strange house...throwing up...water and smokes...another joint...a haze that slowly fades to black until I awake back at my place...dizzy...nauseous...tired...hair of the dog...and somewhere Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life” plays.

Wylde Ratttz

Wylde Ratttz were a veritable super group of alt-rock personalities assembled to basically be a stand in for The Stooges in Todd Haynes's kinda-sorta Bowie biopic "Velvet Goldmine" back in 1998.  The band consisted of original Stooge Ron Asheton, Mudhoney's Mark Arm, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley, Mike Watt, Sean Lennon, and more.  The band's rendition of "TV Eye" made it into the movie and on the soundtrack, but evidently they recorded a whole lot more and have been releasing the sessions over the last few months.  The most recent is a blistering take on Stooges classic "Fun House."  Check it out below, and get it here.

Personally, i think it would be amazing if Siouxsie and The Banshees recorded an album of nothing but Iggy Pop covers.  Because "The Passenger" is just so damn good.  And here it is, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Evening of Light

Nico is one of those artists whose work crawls and oozes its way into my brainspace and then slowly takes over.  I am utterly and completely transfixed by her.  So, today's jam comes from German singer/actress/model's 1968 John Cale-produced album "The Marble Index."  That record could be her best, though i'd happily listen to arguments for the other five as well.  Anyway, watch the video for "Evening of Light" below.  It's got Iggy and The Stooges in it.

Oneohtrix Point Never and Iggy Pop

Where the hell was i last August?  Somehow i missed that Oneohtrix Point Never scored a film, and that he had Iggy Pop provide vocals on a track.  Seriously, where the hell was i last August?  Anyway, better late than never to the "Good Time" OST party.  Watch the video for "The Pure and The Damned" below and get the record from Warp.

Iggy Pop - Gold

I was a big fan of last year's "Post Pop Depression," a return to form for Iggy Pop that saw him collaborating with Josh Homme of Queens of The Stone Age.  The pairing worked wonderfully, and i can only hope for more music from the duo in the future.  In the meanwhile, Pop recently recorded a new song, "Gold," for the upcoming Mathew McConaughey-starring film of the same name, this time around working with producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse, and now i want to hear more from these two as well.  The track has a Spaghetti Western vibe to it that hits in all the right places.  Listen below.
